This ensures the linkage and coherence of the modules offered. GRADUATE SHARING: Close relationships with teachers is a highlight of this programme. Teachers and I have built friendships through activities like monthly meetings, sharing and sporting. Constant gatherings had brought us closer and much like a family. Such precious relationship between teachers and students emphasised the uniqueness of the Asian Studies programme. YAU Ka Yin, Tony Graduate in 2020 OVERSEAS EXPERIENCE •The programme equips students with abilities to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment. •Cross-cultural experience cultivates students' critical thinking, communication skills and respect for cultural diversity. •Through academic exchange, study tour, summer course, voluntary work or placement, students can gain overseas experience in Asia. GRADUATE SHARING: Having study tours to Miyazaki and a summer school at Chung-Ang University, and participating in the Asian Cultural Week held annually were valuable opportunities for me to make friends with people from all over the world, especially from Asia, and there were a lot of unforgettable memories. Throughout the 4 years of learning of being a professional in Asia, I could closely stick with the Asian trends and flows; and be aware of important changes and opportunities. These are highly helpful for my career. CHAN Wing Yin, Agnes Graduate in 2020 EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING •The programme provides various experiential learning opportunities to apply knowledge in social science and humanities. •Students are trained to evaluate situations and problems in the Asian context by adopting multi-disciplinary perspectives. GRADUATE SHARING: Asian Studies is like a Portkey, an access point to Asian cultures and issues. I’m glad I grabbed the key to enter a new field that deepened my understanding of Asia and Asians. Teachers in AS are full of passion and enthusiasm. Their lessons are excellent as they can always load tremendous knowledge into student’s minds via different methods. AS also provide opportunities to complete student’s learning experience and skills through overseas learning, internships, and other fun activities. By graduating from AS, students are ready to make a difference in society. FUNG Ying Wah Graduate in 2021 ASIAN LANGUAGE TRAINING •The programme requires students to attain at least 6 credits in Japanese, Korean or other Asian language modules. •Students may also take advanced level language modules as electives to enhance their competitiveness in the job market or further study. GRADUATE SHARING: Learning Japanese made me worry about my GPA, but I think learning an Asian language is useful under some circumstances in the future. Writing the graduate thesis was the toughest task in my final year of study, but I enjoyed the process of constant consultation with my supervisor very much, as it sharpened my communication skills.
