The event was studded with public and business leaders, supporters, as well as past and present senior management of HSUHK, alumni, staff and students. HSUHK’s journey to university demonstrates how private universities could offer students more choices with variety and help to build a more diversified tertiary education system in Hong Kong, thus benefiting students with the contributions and support from different sectors of the community. I am thankful for HSUHK’s contributions to Hong Kong for the past 40 years, and I wish HSUHK continuing success in the future to nurture more talents for Hong Kong.” Ms Louisa Cheang, Chairman of Board of Governors of HSUHK, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the HKSAR Government for its strong support and recognition bestowed on HSUHK, which made HSUHK the first self-financing tertiary institution to be granted university status under the HKSAR Government’s Roadmap for Becoming a Private University. Professor Simon S M Ho, President of HSUHK, was grateful to the support from the community to HSUHK. The new corporate video telling the evolvement of HSUHK was debuted as well. HSUHK also presented souvenirs to four recent major donors: Dr Jacky Cheung, Council Member and alumnus of HSUHK, Dr Tzu-leung Ho, Governor of the S H Ho Foundation Limited, Dr Patrick Poon, Governor and Chairman of Fund-Raising and Donation Committee of HSUHK, and Dr Charles Yeung, Chairman of GS Charity Foundation Limited, to recognise their contributions and support to the development of the University. The air of festivity was further enhanced by the performances by Dr Moses Cheng, Chairman of Council of HSUHK, Ms H M Tong, Council Member of HSUHK, Dr Tom Fong, Vice-President (Organisational Development) of HSUHK, HSUHK’s alumna Ms Cheryl Yung, and the HSUHK Sinfonietta. In its journey to become the leading private liberal-arts-oriented university in the region, HSUHK strives to nurture global citizens and talents with critical thinking, innovative minds, caring attitude, moral values and social responsibility, the characteristics of which are believed to be critical for future leaders to stand firm and strong in this fast-changing world. After consideration, I hope to share some of my values and thinkings which I seldom talked about before. Felix may be an active and outgoing person in the eyes of many colleagues. But I consider myself an introvert. In fact, the mark I got in the MBTI Personality Test was on the borderline between Extrovert and Introvert, tilting more to the Introvert side. In spite of this, I have that marketing’s blood type “M” and like chatting and sharing with colleagues from different units and departments. As an old saying in the commercial sector goes, “It’s better to have good network than good knowledge.” As a member of the School of Business, I hope that getting to know more people would help to enhance my working efficiency and my delivery in teaching. Among those I have had sharings with, I particularly care about those junior colleagues and frontline staff. I think one of the reasons may be that they are of similar ages to my students. As a teacher, I feel like wanting to help the youngsters out. If you view education from marketing’s point of view, it is also a kind of service. Then how can a service provider do well in service marketing? Usually, the organisational structure of most institutions is pyramid-shaped, with senior management at the top, supported by middle management and frontline staff. However, in an educational institution, frontline staff is usually those who have direct contacts with students and parents. They are valuable asset of a school. Therefore, in my opinion, if the pyramid can be turned upside down with senior management supporting middle management and frontline staff more, then a school will be able to offer better services. I think this also applies to HSUHK where most of our colleagues are very outstanding, as far as I know. I have come across with so many passionate colleagues in HSUHK these years. For example, the Service-Learning Section under the Centre for Teaching and Learning could not have been established and become a university-wide programme as it is nowadays, if it was not our colleagues and teachers who were willing to spend their leisure time at the beginning on briefing students and liaising with social welfare organisations for partnership. In brief, “Service-Learning” integrates what students learn at school with volunteer work, allowing students to apply their knowledge in a realistic environment and help the community practically despite there is no compensation for their services. For instance, after having learned “Consumer Behaviour” in my lecture, students would go to primary schools and use it as the theme of extra-curricular activities, explaining this concept to primary school students from low-income households. During this process, not only these little boys and girls could acquire new knowledge and join extra-curricular activities without adding burden to their families, but HSUHK students also had learning when they prepared teaching materials for the primary school students. For students, this kind of “experimental learning” might be more impactful, as students’ responses to this programme have been very positive. They told me they found this programme very meaningful, and I saw students underwent essential changes after they had participated in it. When I first joined HSUHK 10 years ago, my dream was to witness and be part of its whole process of becoming a university. The dream has already come true. As to my next step, I hope I can go on having fun with my passion. Actually I have been aspiring to do something which is interesting and would have impact on the society, such as “Service-Learning” and the “Junzi Corporation Survey”. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone and all corporates and units for their support on the “Junzi Corporation Survey” for the past eight years. Though we need to leave the comfort zone this year to look for sponsorship on our own, we are thankful to have the support from President, Deans, Department Heads, as well as friends and alumni. I am also gratified to have teammates who share a common belief. With our concerted effort, I wish we can make it. Lastly, I am much grateful to have the opportunity to join HSUHK. There are many great teachers and staff in HSUHK who have missions in their hearts. When you are doing something with missions and you believe what you are doing is meaningful, you would become more positive. Therefore I always encourage people to go after their dreams. There may be obstacles in the journey, but life is experienced through trial and error. There is no such thing as right or wrong decision - how would you know whether you could catch your dream if you never take the first step? Dictated by Dr Felix Tang Written by Erudition editorial team 自從接受了《博學》的邀請，我便很認真的在想有甚麼可以分享。經過一番思考，我希望可以在這裡分享一些之前比較少談及的看法和價值觀。 在很多同事的眼中，Felix 是一個外向、活躍的人，但我覺得自己是一個內向的人，做那些 16 型人格測驗，我的得分也剛好是處於外向與內向的臨界點，比較傾向內向那邊。雖然如此，我又流著市場營銷的Ｍ型血，喜歡和不同單位或學系的人聊天，有時間便會約他們吃飯。商界常言「識人好過識字」，我在商學院打滾，也想多認識幾個朋友，希望有助提高工作效率、辦好教育。 在接觸的不同人士當中，我尤其關心前線或較初級的同事，可能因為他們的年紀其實和我的學生差不多，作為一個教師，就會特別想幫忙年青人多一點。從市場學的角度來看，教育也是一種服務。那提供服務的機構，怎樣可以做好「服務營銷」呢？一般機構的架構都是金字塔形，即高級管理層在頂端，中級管理層和前線員工就負責支援他們的決策。但在學校裡，前線同事是真正接觸學生和家長的一群，他們是學校很寶貴的資產。我認識大部分恒大的同工，他們都是很優秀的，如果金字塔倒過來，管理層和中層對前線員工有更多的支援，互相支持下，學校定能提供更出色的服務。 這些年來，我在恒大真的遇到很多好有心的同事。好像現在教與學發展中心開展的「服務學習」，最初都是同事和教師們利用自己的公餘時間去找社福機構合作、為同學做簡介，才漸漸發展成今天可以在全校推行的規模。「服務學習」其實是將同學在課堂上所學到的，與義工服務結合，讓同學能學以致用，雖然無償，卻能實在地幫助到社群。例如我的學生學了何謂「消費者行為」，之後他們會到小學以「消費者行為」作為課外活動的主題，向來自低收入家庭的小學生講解，讓這些小朋友有機會參與課外活動之餘，又不用加重家裡的經濟負擔。這個過程中，不止小學生有得著，恒大學生在為小學生準備教材的過程中也會有所學習。對學生來說，這種「體驗式學習」的得著可能更多，事實上恒大同學們對「服務學習」的反應都非常好，有些同學親口對我說感受好深，覺得好有意義，我也看到學生的轉變很大。 我 10 年前加入恒大的時候，夢想是可以親身參與及見證學校成為大學的整個過程。這個夢想已經實現了。我本身是一個貪玩的人，所以下一步我希望可以憑著一股衝勁，繼續做一些好玩的事。其實我一直都希望做些有趣，又能對社會產生影響的事，除了「服務學習」，「君子企業調查」也是其中之一。藉著這個機會，我想多謝八年來參與和支持君子企業調查的每一個人、企業、單位。雖然今屆我們跳出了舒適圈，需要自己找贊助，但幸運地有校長、院長、系主任們的祝福，以及身邊好友和校友的支持，還有一班有共同理念的同事一起奮鬥，希望齊心便事成。 最後，很感恩能加入恒大，恒大的教師都很優秀，他們心裡面都有團火，充滿使命感。當你做事時有使命感，覺得有意義，人也會變得正面很多。所以我很鼓勵人追夢，雖然過程中或許會遇上很多障礙，但人生就是不停嘗試，沒有說哪條路就是對、哪條路就是錯，沒試過又怎知道那條路通不通呢？ 口述：鄧子龍博士 撰文：《博學》編輯小組 Dr Felix Tang has good relationships with young colleagues 鄧子龍博士與年青同事打成一片 Dr Felix Tang had gathering with colleagues 鄧子龍博士與同事聚會 The hand-made birthday card to Dr Felix Tang by his colleagues 同事親手為鄧子龍博士繪製生日咭 Sharing by Alumni 校友分享 Be Ambitious to Strive for New Heights 雄心壯志　勇闖高峰 Mr Standy F H Chan Chief Inspector of Police Assistant Divisional Commander (Administration), Tuen Mun Division Alumnus of Hang Seng School of Commerce 陳飛雄先生 總督察 屯門分區警署助理指揮官（行政） 恒生商學書院校友 Phone-met Mr Standy Chan the very first time, we were immediately impressed by his bright and powerful voice. A member of the Hong Kong Police Force and a graduate of Hang Seng School of Commerce (HSSC) in 1991, Mr Chan firstly introduced to us his bonding with HSSC, “Before becoming a HSSC student, I had joined the Hong Kong Police Force. With the support from the Force, I took the two-year full-time Diploma in Business Studies programme, which equipped me for future career development in the Force by opening my eyes to global perspectives and the finance world. The financial knowledge I learned at HSSC was to a large extent helpful for me to deal with projects related to commercial crimes as well as manage financial resources.” Mr Chan’s life at HSSC was wonderful. He recalled and smiled, “I enjoyed the time at HSSC, where we had much interaction with teachers in class or tutorial. I was the lucky one who was usually invited by teachers to answer questions and eager to explore the knowledge further with a questioning mind. Schoolmates were kind and helped each other. We participated in both internal and external English debate competitions, which were challenging yet rewarding as these helped boosting our confidence and language proficiency.” Mr Chan also shared his warm memories of having night snacks with dormitory roommates in the estate nearby, and the joyous moments of leading the HSSC Women’s Basketball Team to play games as a coach. After graduating from HSSC, Mr Chan resumed duties at the Force. He then started his service in the Commercial Crime Bureau where he could make use of his financial knowledge learned at HSSC in his investigation work. Later he had the chances to further explore his career in various units, including the Police Tactical Unit (PTU), Narcotics Bureau and Anti-Triad Squad of Yau Tsim District. He has also been an instructor of PTU Headquarters, with the opportunities to receive different kinds of training and exchange overseas in the United Kingdom, South Korea and the Mainland. Besides, he loved teaching and was happy to see youngsters to acquire new skills. Behind the extensive experience in the Force from operation and criminal investigation to administration was his strong dedication and commitment, and the endless ambition to scale new heights. He treasured every opportunity to learn new things and enrich himself, without a thought to stop his pace. “Knowledge is never more than enough. I would like to obtain a master’s degree in the coming days, not only for personal satisfaction but also to prepare myself to be a teaching professional after retirement.” He said. Mr Chan said he would keep on maintaining a close connection with HSUHK, as a consultant and a supporter. He is always pleased to provide input for HSUHK. To him, communication is an art. It is crucial to communicate with different stakeholders for facilitation. Most importantly, we need to communicate with ourselves to understand targets we would like to achieve. “Everyone has their own timeline. Never underestimate yourself and be confident to follow your heart though there may be distraction or hesitation. Also we should stay alert and take crisis awareness as a driving force to pursue progress.” This was his message to HSUHK students. 首次與陳飛雄先生通電話，頃刻被他嘹亮且雄渾的聲音吸引。現役香港警隊的陳先生，是恒生商學書院（恒商）1991 年畢業生，他細訴自己與恒商的淵源：「入讀恒商前，我已經加入香港警務處。在警務處的支持下，我在恒商全職修讀了兩年的商學文憑課程。課程有助我拓闊國際視野和認識財經世界，為將來在警務處的事業發展打好基礎。於恒商習得的商務知識，在我處理有關商業罪案的項目及管理財務資源時皆能大派用場。」 陳先生在恒商的生活多姿多采。他帶笑憶述：「我很享受在恒商的時光。無論是普通課堂，抑或是導修課，師生間都常常互動。我往往是被老師邀請回答問題的幸運兒，亦樂於尋根究底探索知識。同學都很友善，並互相幫助。我們也參與校內及校外的英語辯論比賽，過程甚具挑戰性但獲益良多，有助增強我們的自信及語言能力。」陳先生不忘分享與宿舍室友到附近屋邨吃宵夜的溫暖回憶，還有以教練身份帶領恒商女子籃球隊出戰賽事的歡樂時刻。 從恒商畢業後，陳先生恢復警務處的職務。他隨即開始在商業罪案調查科工作，運用從恒商獲得的商務知識進行調查任務。及後他把握機會在各個單位進一步探究事業發展，包括警察機動部隊、毒品調查科和油尖區反三合會行動組。他亦曾任警察機動部隊總部教官，赴往英國、南韓及內地接受各類型的訓練，並與行業人士交流。除此之外，他亦很喜愛教學工作，每每看見年輕人掌握新技能都很欣喜。陳先生無論在警隊的行動、罪案調查與行政上，都有豐富的經驗，而背後推動他一直往前的，是他那份堅定的敬業和奉獻精神，以及勇攀高峰的不竭雄心。他珍惜每個學習新事物及增值自己的機會，從沒想過停下腳步。「書到用時方恨少。在未來的日子，我希望取得碩士學位，除了個人滿足感，也可為退休後成為教學人員作好準備。」他說。 陳先生表示他會繼續以顧問和支持者的角色，跟恒大保持緊密聯繫，提供意見。對他而言，溝通是一門藝術，與不同持份者溝通可以促進事情發展，而我們更應該與自己好好溝通，瞭解自己希望達成的目標。他寄語恒大生：「不要小覷自己。儘管途中可能會有障礙或疑惑，但每個人都有他的時間表，要自信地跟隨自己的心，並善用危機意識推動自己向前邁進。」 Mr Standy Chan attended the Founders’ Day 2019 cum University Naming Dinner on 16 March and was glad to witness the developments of HSUHK 陳飛雄先生出席 3 月 16 日恒大舉行的「2019 校慶日暨大學正名晚宴」，喜見恒大的發展。 Mr Standy Chan (first from right, second row) with schoolmates on HSSC campus 陳飛雄先生（第二排，右一）與同窗於恒商校園 Relaxing time at a cafe 在咖啡室的悠閒時光 Try Everything Once and the Good Things Twice 勇於嘗試　專注所選 Miss Jess M K Cheng Bachelor of Translation with Business (Honours), HSUHK Juris Doctor Student, University of Sydney 鄭美君小姐 恒大商務翻譯（榮譽）學士 悉尼大學法律博士學生 Currently based in Australia, Miss Jess Cheng, a graduate of the Bachelor of Translation with Business (Honours) (BTB) in 2014, is taking her steps to becoming a lawyer. The positive attitude and adventurous spirit of this lawyer-to-be could be felt though miles apart. Miss Cheng enjoys exploring new horizons which marks her path to become a solicitor. She recalled, “Thanks to the intensive trainings and wide-ranging modules of BTB, I had the chance to explore translation and writing skills in business, copywriting, art, financial, legal and other industries. After all the explorations at HSUHK, I decided to work in the legal field.” After her graduation from HSUHK, Jess further attained a master’s degree in Language and Law in a local university. Internship and freelance experience gained in HSUHK helped shape Jess to a positive and hard-working person. “Translation work can be highly intense. When I worked as a freelance interpreter, I took on a three-day job in Beijing and Shanghai for a British client. The job was a challenging one — our flight landed at 4 am and the all-day-long interpreting task started at 8 am. I barely had time to rest and think.” As the old saying goes, hard times create strong men. Miss Cheng smiled, “People become incredibly powerful when getting through hard times, so I keep trying to exceed my limitations.” Miss Cheng treasured the skills acquired in HSUHK, “When I worked as a paralegal, my boss offered to outsource the translation of legal documents but I did it myself, because I didn’t want to lose my translation and writing skills.” Miss Cheng believes bilingual practice is necessary, especially now when she has less exposure to Chinese language overseas. Small-class teaching in HSUHK also enlightened her campus life, “Teachers and students were very close to each other, I learned not only skills but attitudes from BTB teachers. A lecturer said to us, ‘Try everything before making career decision. It might take long but you can at least know what you don’t like and avoid them.’ I agreed and kept this in mind.” Now pursuing a postgraduate degree in Law abroad, Miss Cheng is looking for better career growth and development. Does she need to start and learn all over again in such transformation? “Fortunately, some skills I learned in HSUHK are applicable. I learned some jargons from the legal translation courses, which helped me with handling the documents. I think the theories and skills I learned from the translation courses are very practical, which I can apply even working in different fields. For example, when you are dealing with documents or writing business emails, good writing skills, grammar and choices of words can always facilitate the communications.” She explained. Expecting her graduation in 2020, Miss Cheng has decided to stay in Australia for work. Studying abroad at late 20s may sound a bold decision, Miss Cheng sees it as a pursuit of dreams. “Young people may not have clear planning of what they want to be, it takes time to look for the answer.” How did she chart her career path? “Never stop trying. The older you get, the more hesitated you are. Mr Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, was invited to officiate at the Ceremony. Over 400 guests including the awardees, panel of judges, senior management from media, and guests from academia as well as political and business sectors attended the Ceremony to share the joy of the awardees. In his speech, Mr Paul Chan said, “Though it is my second time attending this event, it still gives me a brand-new feeling as it is the first Business Journalism Awards after HSUHK was renamed as university. From Hang Seng Management College to The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, it was a long journey and the change of name has significant meaning.” Mr Chan further addressed that the freedom of press was one of Hong Kong’s key to success: “It is fortunate that Hong Kong has a group of journalists who are professional, passionate and talented. The Forum aimed to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the logistics industry in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) amid the digital transformation era, and to explore the future trend of the industry. President Simon S M Ho was invited as one of the three speakers at the conference. In the Conference, President Ho shared his view on university education. Beyond helping students establish their values, unleash their potential and cultivate their interests and abilities to cater for future challenges in work and life, university education also had public missions to pass on cultural inheritance, facilitate reform of the society and build modern civilisation. He thought the future trend of university education should focus more on students’ life-long learning experience, and educational institutions should transform to ensure the teaching would benefit students with more relevant effectiveness. Other speakers in the Conference included Professor Chung-ming Kuan, President of the National Taiwan University; and Professor Kit-tai Hau, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Educational Psychology, CUHK. In the speech, President Ho shared how HSUHK, in its endeavour to be renamed as university, persisted to tackle various challenges through the concerted efforts of all staff and stakeholders. He said, “HSUHK is indebted to the selfless contributions of our founders who laid the cornerstone for the development of the University. We have been following and passing on the education belief of the founders and striving for strict governance, teaching excellence and clear positioning. In the process of acquiring university title, members of HSUHK are united to face challenges and keep on improving and innovating. We persist our values and belief regardless of the limitation in resources. I think these are important factors for HSUHK’s success to be renamed as university.” In addition, President Ho expressed his visions about undergraduate education and talked about the unique features of HSUHK. During the luncheon, President Ho delivered a speech and said that the University would develop at a steady pace according to the “5-Year Strategic Plan” amid various challenges. Looking forward, it was expected that the number of admissions would increase in future as HSUHK was benefited from being renamed as a university. President Ho further pointed out that HSUHK would proactively explore the opportunities of developing new programmes in future and carry out academic researches regarding the development of the Greater Bay Area. Beyond these, HSUHK was also recruiting students from the Mainland as well as Southeast Asia’s regions to enhance the diversification of student sources and the level of internationalism. This year, over 800 scholarships and awards have been awarded to more than 520 students, amounting to over HK$7 million. In the welcoming speech, President Simon S M Ho expressed sincere gratitude to scholarship donors for their generosity and continuing support towards the University and students. Being the 8th presentation ceremony since its introduction, the total amount of scholarship and bursary funding granted has grown drastically from HK$1.1 million in 2011/12 to around HK$19 million in 2018/19, which included the HKSAR Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme. To date, scholarship opportunities have been expanded into four domains, namely entrance scholarships, academic scholarships, co-curricular scholarships and overseas learning scholarships. These help foster students’ all-round development and encourage them to scale new heights in areas for which they are passionate and talented. Aslam Hamza Saghir (BSC-DSBI, Year 4) was awarded the Mrs Halima Razack Scholarship, Self-financing Post-Secondary Scholarship Scheme – Talent Development Scholarship and three other scholarships for his outstanding academic and non-academic achievements. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation to his family and teaching staff for their unfailing support throughout the years, and his pride in being a student and graduate-to-be of HSUHK. With the theme “HSUHK: Leading Change From Inside Out”, participants were introduced to concepts and application of Change Management, which included, among others, the key elements for effective change management, the importance of cross-functional efforts for continuous improvement, and process reengineering. During the discussion session in the afternoon, participants exchanged among teams constructive feedback for better performance and services quality. Being one of the most anticipated events of the year, the dinner was attended by more than 600 guests, including students, staff and alumni of HSUHK, student representatives from fellow institutions as well as representatives from the nearby community. To mark the opening of the event, President Simon S M Ho and Li Cheung Kuk, SU President, were invited to deliver the opening and welcoming remarks respectively, followed by the roasted pig cutting ceremony joined by honourable guests. Over the years, SU Annual Dinner has become the occasion for student organisations to get together and this year was no exception. Participants dressed in distinctive costume to attend the reunion. The journey started from The Peak, where the team set off from The Peak Tower. They then walked along Lugard Road, where they could catch a glimpse of the vista of the Victoria Harbour. The team then moved downhill through Hatton Road and reached the Pinewood Battery, the highest coastal battery in Hong Kong. Scars of battles and military remnants could still be clearly seen there. The team then reached the final destination at Kennedy Town, when the hike was concluded with a simple lunch hosted by President Ho. During the journey, students shared with President Ho their university life experience and discussed issues such as career planning, language requirements, use of creative technology and impacts, and future development of HSUHK. The exhibition was sponsored by Sin Wai Kin Chinese Culture Promotion Scheme. “HSUHK advocates ‘Liberal + Professional’ education approach and is dedicated to students’ whole person development by focusing on nurturing their human caring attitudes and moral values. We consider the organisation of The Art of Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition helps reflect HSUHK’s value as a liberal-arts-oriented university, and we wish it would help enhance students’ spiritual development and contribute to the inheritance and promotion of Chinese traditional culture and arts.” President Simon S M Ho said in the opening ceremony on 1 March. Beyond the exhibition, the programme also included The Art of Chinese Calligraphy Workshop. It was held on 8 March in which three contemporary calligraphers, including Professor Lik-man Yeung, Dean of China-Hong Kong Calligraphy Association, Mr Quansheng Wang and Mr Qingle Lin, came to HSUHK to talk about the art of Chinese calligraphy and its relation to wellbeing. They also shared their experiences and guided the participants to enhance their calligraphy skills. Mr Lo shared in his talk his management philosophy, his experience in starting up a business, and how he had made use of the value of “For the Greater Good” to establish and manage the Crystal Group, turning it from small garment factories to an international corporation with over 70,000 employees nowadays. The theme of the inauguration this year was “Experience a Fruitful Journey, Unleash Our Full Potential”. Twenty five Student Ambassadors were honoured to have had invited President Simon S M Ho, Dr Tom Fong, Vice-President (Organisational Development); Professor Bradley Barnes, Dean of the School of Business; Ms Rebecca Chan, Director of Student Affairs; Dr Brossa Wong, Registrar; as well as department heads, staff and guests to witness this spectacular moment. President Simon Ho and Ms Rebecca Chan encouraged the Student Ambassadors to try their best and pass on the spirit of service. After handing over the lantern, the new Student Ambassadors took the oath witnessed by Dr Tom Fong. The Student Ambassadors were ready to serve HSUHK with the spirit “To Learn and To Serve”. After the Inauguration Ceremony, new Ambassadors and Student Ambassador alumni had dinner together. Around 70 HSUHK students and staff participated in this mega-scale sports event. Among them, more than 80% of the runners competed in the 10 km Race, nine runners took part in the Half Marathon and three runners challenged the Full Marathon race! In order to get better preparation before the race, a series of training sessions, such as regular running classes and workshops on carbohydrates loading, had been arranged by the Student Affairs Office. Like last year, a booth was set up for providing luggage storage services and supplement support. In addition, physiotherapists were invited to offer on-field support, including sports massage and passive stretching, to HSUHK runners. 2019 年 2 月 17 日為香港馬拉松的日子，近 70 名恒大師生參加此體育盛事。其中超過八成的隊員參加十公里賽事，九名隊員參與半馬及三名隊員參與全馬賽事。學生事務處在賽前安排了一連串的訓練，例如每月跑班和賽前飲食講座，提供多方面資訊給跑手。今年大學亦於銅鑼灣火龍徑中華遊樂會旁設置大本營，為各恒大跑手提供行李寄存服務及物資上的支援，並邀請了註冊物理治療師到場為各運動員進行伸展及緩和運動，為參賽者提供完善的後援服務。 Exhibition cum Presentation Ceremony of the Chinese Couplet Calligraphy Competition 毛筆揮春書法比賽得獎作品展暨頒獎典禮 To raise staff and students’ interest in Chinese calligraphy, the Liberal Arts at HSUHK - Chinese Culture Promotion Programme organised a Chinese Couplet Calligraphy Competition in January 2019. The competition was divided into Student Group and Staff Group, in which participants could design couplets of their own style beyond the traditional couplets to compete for the Best Creativity Prize in each group. The response to the competition was encouraging with over 100 entries from students and staff received. President Simon S M Ho and Professor Alex Cheung, Head of Department of Chinese, were invited as judges of the competition. An exhibition jointly organised with the Library was held from 26 February to recognise the prize-winners and showcase their pieces. A presentation ceremony was also held on the first day of the exhibition, in which President Simon Ho acknowledged the efforts made by all participants. Incorporating the ICAC’s mission and integrity messages into a DIY workshop, the Ambassadors invited participants to create unique cross stitch patterns and design their own mini tote bags. To tie in with the 45th anniversary of the ICAC, a coffee-sharing activity was held during the promotion period. During the fun-filled evening, students from Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Mainland China, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Taiwan presented their local cuisines. The Global Café enabled participants to learn about other cultures and languages, make new friends and enjoy delicious food. 2019 恒大國際美食節於 2019 年 2 月 21 日舉行。活動旨在加強交流生與本地生的互動及交流。來自芬蘭、法國、德國、以色列、中國內地、挪威、荷蘭、瑞士及台灣等地的交流生即場烹調家鄉傳統美食，予本地同學品嚐。國際美食節讓一眾師生聚首一堂，同學們透過美食了解各地文化及語言，結識新朋友。 Celebrating Chinese New Year – Joint RCs Poon Choi Dinner 2018-19 年度住宿書院盆菜宴 2018-19 The first Joint RCs Poon Choi Dinner was held on 12 February 2019 on the podium of the Residential Colleges (RC). About 200 students, including local and non-local residents, inbound exchange students and affiliated members of RC systems, members of RC Management Teams and Fellows gathered to celebrate Chinese New Year and the unity of the RC community, as well as the diverse and integrated culture shared with neighbours. Dr Tom Fong, Vice-President (Organisational Development), kicked off the Dinner with opening remarks, saying HSUHK welcomed students from all over the world and adding that cultural diversity would enrich students’ learning experience. The night started with a lion dance performed by Stewards Yiu On Integrated Rehabilitation Services Centre, followed by a singing performance by inbound exchange students. They sang traditional songs of their countries and the well-known Canto Song “God of Fortune Is Coming”. The Gods of Fortune played by the technician of the Campus Development and Management Office and the little twins of the Associate Master of Wellness College also boosted the air of festivity. Thanks to the generous support of Masters, Associate Masters and Fellows, rounds of lucky draw were held throughout the night. All representatives strove to achieve the best results for their Residential Colleges (RCs). After rounds of battles, Evergreen College came out as the champion of the competition. The Inter-RCs Kin-ball Competition of The Bowl was later held on 9 March 2019. It was a new game of The Bowl this year and required strong communication, teamwork and quick action of the players. RC Masters, Associate Masters, Resident Tutors and student residents were excited to cheer for the teams. Finally, Amity College won the championship. The winning team of HSUHK was awarded HK$30,000 from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention of the University of Hong Kong. The activities under the “Always by Your Side” Project were fully supported by the Student Affairs Office (SAO) and guided by Dr Pui-sze Cheung, Lecturer of Department of Social Science, as well as Dr Dacon Tai and Ms Rita Yip, Counsellors of SAO. With the awarded HK$30,000 as seed fund, HSUHK Peer Mentor Scheme has launched another project “Hands in ‘Hang’” in the academic year 2018/19 to extend the love and care to the community. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong (CILTHK) hosts the annual Student Day with missions to raise young people’s concern about the current issues of logistics and transport in Hong Kong, and to encourage them to develop their future career in related industries. This year, the CILTHK, collaborating with The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), held the Student Day on 2 March 2019 at CUHK. Seven teams formed by students from tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and Macau took part in this competition. It was a team-based case competition in a simulated business reality which aimed at promoting practical problem-solving skill and creative thinking capability of post-secondary students. In the competition, students were required to resolve workplace problems under time constraints. The competition was organised by DataDevelop Consulting Ltd, where participants were from local tertiary institutions. Mr Leung expressed his admiration for the contributions and achievements HSUHK had made over the years, and also wished the University, with its recently-attained university status, every success in its ongoing endeavours to nurture future leaders for society. Mr Leung was given an introduction of HSUHK by President Ho, followed by a campus tour. She was introduced to the teaching and learning facilities for a better understanding of campus life of exchange students. Mr Kam was also introduced to campus facilities and Residential Colleges of HSUHK.
