This module aims at providing an elementary coverage of the incidence, causes, symptoms, diagnosis, progression, prognosis, dietary recommendations, and treatment (drugs and/or surgery) of the common diseases. It is designed to enable students to take better care of themselves and live a healthier life. This module instills in students the concept that prevention is better than cure and the idea that although they are not health professionals they can seek medical advice promptly once they detect symptoms/warning signals.
學習成果
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. recognize the common diseases of the human body including the cause, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment,

  2. realize how such recognition will contribute to more rigorous preventive measures, and better personal health,

  3. search, read and appreciate general articles pertaining to medicine and health-related issues

  4. explain basic medical concepts by using simple and layman terms when symptoms/warning signals of a disease arise

  5. critically comment on contemporary health-related issues and advances in medicine
