HSUHK Establishes Footholds at Nansha and Qianhai to Engage in Greater Bay Area Development

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) announced the establishment of its first “Hang Seng University of Hong Kong Centre” in Qianhai, Shenzhen, and Nansha, Guangzhou, respectively, marking the University’s active participation in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) development. Thanks to the generous support from Shenzhen AI Industry Association (AIIA) and AI & Shen Group, ample space in both GBA MAH Eco-Industrial Park in Nansha and Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub in Qianhai will be lent for free to HSUHK for teaching and research purpose, as well as to support staff’s and students’ development in GBA.

An online agreement signing ceremony was held yesterday (15 November 2022), officiated by Professor Simon S M Ho, President of HSUHK; Professor Benjamin Chiao, Academic Committee Chairman of AIIA; and Mr Tian Kun, Executive Director, AI & Shen Group’s GBA-MAH Industry Park. The ceremony was witnessed by Professor Y V Hui, Vice-President (Academic & Research), Professor Hon S Chan, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience), Dr Tom Fong, Vice-President (Organisational Development) and Professor Desmond Hui, Professor and Founding Head of Department of Art and Design.

In his remarks, Professor Ho thanked AIIA and AI & Shen Group for their staunch support and recognition to the University. He said, “Nansha and Qianhai are both special economic zones in GBA. Setting the first step for HSUHK to enter GBA, the two Centres will serve as an important base for teaching and research activities, community service and the exploration of collaboration and career development opportunities for students and graduates in GBA.”

Professor Chiao welcomed HSUHK for establishing foothold at Qianhai. He said, “Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone is committed to supporting the economic and social development of Hong Kong and enhancing the cooperation in the region, in the promotion of construction and development in GBA.”

Mr Tian Kun, Executive Director, AI & Shen Group’s GBA-MAH Industry Park of AI & Shen Group said, “AI & Shen Group has always been committed to building a completely closed loop of life and health industry. In this closed loop, education and research are indispensable keys, and the intensive cooperation with HSUHK is also based on this. I am glad to see both parties formed a cooperation framework and a consensus on future development in such a short period of time.”
