HSUHK held its Spring Media Reception on 27 February 2026. President Simon Ho, together with Professor Joshua Mok, Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research); Professor Jeanne Fu, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience); and Dr Josiah Chan, Vice-President (Organisational Development), met with media representatives to share the University\u2019s latest initiatives in AI-enabled teaching and learning, curriculum development, international collaboration, and campus development.<\/p>

President Ho unveiled HSUHK\u2019s Word of the Year \u201cUndertaking\u201d (\u627f), symbolising the continuation of the University\u2019s 45-year educational mission. The concept of \u201cUndertaking\u201d reflects both the preservation of HSUHK\u2019s unique \u201cLiberal + Professional\u201d education model and the University\u2019s commitment to nurturing students with critical thinking, innovative minds, and caring attitudes to meet evolving societal needs.<\/p>

President Ho also shared the establishment of an AI Steering Committee and task forces led by three Vice-Presidents to coordinate a comprehensive AI development strategy across the University. He said, HSUHK has launched the \u201cAI HUB@HSU\u201d, a one-stop platform integrating AI tools, online learning resources, and ethical guidelines to enhance academic effectiveness and administrative efficiency. In this semester, the University is piloting an AI Learning Assistant initiative across six courses, providing real-time academic support and personalised learning materials. Looking ahead, HSUHK plans to expand AI-driven gamified learning and service-learning initiatives to further strengthen students\u2019 innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.<\/p>

Professor Mok highlighted that, in programme development and international collaboration, HSUHK will introduce Hong Kong\u2019s first Doctor of Decision Analytics in the 2026\u201327 academic year, with around 30 students already admitted. Preparations are also under way for the new Doctor of Business Administration and PhD programmes. In addition, the University has partnered with University College London, becoming the first institution in the Greater China region to join the Climate-U Network, and will jointly promote a master\u2019s programme in sustainable development. HSUHK has also established a 1+1 dual master\u2019s pathway with Griffith University in Australia and will co-organise an international education conference with the University of Oxford to explore emerging trends in higher education.<\/p>

Professor Fu shared that, in teaching innovation, HSUHK has introduced the \u201cFuturEdge\u201d curriculum as part of its Common Core Programme. Accounting for 18% of total credit requirements, the competency-based curriculum focuses on three core areas: Human Development and Social Responsibility, Cultural Diversity and Global Awareness, and Creativity, Technoscience, and Digital Competence. The curriculum integrates AI-enabled learning approaches. For example, in the course \u201cScience and Life\u201d, the BEAM AI assessment system allows teachers and students to co-create assessment criteria, with AI providing real-time feedback to support learning refinement and self-directed study, fostering responsible global citizenship.<\/p>

Dr Chan noted that, in response to continued growth in student enrolment, the University has acquired an entire floor of a commercial building in Shek Mun, Sha Tin, at a cost of HK$90 million, which is expected to come into use in the 2026\u201327 academic year. In terms of student accommodation, in addition to the existing 270 off-campus hostel places in San Po Kong, HSUHK plans to lease a newly built residential building in Kowloon East, providing around 300 additional places, with completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2027. The University will also actively collaborate with developers to bid for student hostel sites in Siu Lek Yuen and Kai Tak, with a view to addressing long-term accommodation needs.<\/p>
