The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) hosted the Arts@HSUHK event, \u201cThe Past and Presence of Naamyum (Southern Tone)\u201d on 5 November 2025. Renowned artist Professor Yuen Siu-fai was invited to deliver a live demonstration of the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage item \u2014 the narrative singing art of Naamyum. Accompanied by live Chinese music, his performance revealed the unique charm of Guangdong\u2019s traditional musical storytelling.<\/p>

Professor Yuen showcased the distinctive flavour of Naamyum through exquisite artistry. With masterful vocal techniques and lyrical narration, he vividly evoked the lifestyle of Hong Kong society in the 1940s and 1950s, immersing the audience in a bygone era rich with humanistic sentiment.<\/p>

The event also featured Ms Musette Tsang, Creative Director of the One Table Two Chairs Charitable Foundation, as storyteller. In a lively and engaging manner, she provided an accessible interpretation of the Naamyum art form, preserving cultural heritage while inspiring reflections on the fusion of tradition and innovation.<\/p>
