The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) and the Audio Description Association (Hong Kong) organised the \u201cTalk2U \u2013 Audio Description Community Service Scheme\u201d on 29 March. During the event, HSUHK students guided visually impaired individuals from the Rehabilitation Alliance Hong Kong to explore various areas of the campus, enabling them to \u201csee\u201d the University\u2019s greenery and facilities through sound and touch.<\/p>

The students completed 16 hours of training on audio descriptions and wrote their own scripts to lead the visually impaired guests on a tour of the University\u2019s Residential Colleges, Lee Quo Wei Academic Building, and the stone lions at The Way. Through the students\u2019 vivid descriptions, guests were able to experience what HSUHK\u2019s campus is like by using their auditory and tactile senses, and constructing an imaginative picture of the University.<\/p>

Johnson Lo, a student participant of the programme shared that the event deepened his understanding and enriched his empathy for the needs and feelings of visually impaired individuals as he was able to view the world from their perspective. He noted that the experience heightened his awareness of the daily challenges faced by visually impaired individuals and equipped him with the tools to communicate and interact with them more effectively, as he hopes to engage in similar volunteer work to serve the community in the future.<\/p>
