The International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH) has established the CIPSH Chair for Cultural Heritage and Creative Humanities at HSUHK. Professor Desmond Hui, Head of the Department of Art and Design, will serve as the Chairholder for the next five years, with effect from 1 August 2024.<\/p>

The CIPSH Chair in Cultural Heritage and Creative Humanities, which is a university-wide cultural project, will focus on establishing links with the North-South alliance in terms of building capacity and facilitating the transfer of knowledge in creative humanities and cultural heritage management, an effort that is critically needed in many parts of the world today. With the organisation of conferences, workshops, research and publications, the project will contribute to CIPSH\u2019s global priorities in the short and long term.<\/p>

Established in 1949, CIPSH is an international academic organisation that was established under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) with its headquarters in Paris, France. The CIPSH Chairs programme was created in 2018 to further support existing networks of research centres in the field of humanities, attract greater attention to humanities\u2019 efforts worldwide, as well as raise awareness of their importance in contemporary society. Six CIPSH Chairs have been appointed globally since 2019.<\/p>

Professor Desmond Hui is the Programme Director of the MA in Cultural Heritage Management programme, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Built Heritage Conservation, as well as Chairman of the Art Subcommittee of the Museum Advisory Committee in Hong Kong. He is also among the Expert Facility for UNESCO\u2019s \u201cCulture|2030 Indicators\u201d initiative and was a part of the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.<\/p>
