On 12 August 2023, the School of Communication (SCOM) held its annual Joint School Advisory Committees Meeting and Retreat for the 2022-23 academic year. The School’s academic staff, external advisors, external examiners, and new part-time lecturers attended the event to evaluate the School’s progress over the last year, and contemplate potential plans for the future.<\/p>

Professor Scarlet Tso, Dean of SCOM, provided a comprehensive summary of the School’s accomplishments in the past year and highlighted programme developments, school events, student admissions, and awards received by students.<\/p>

Professor Ronald Chiu, Associate Dean of SCOM, introduced guests and faculty members, and guest attendees were encouraged to share their views and suggestions for teaching, learning, potential opportunities, and future expansion plans for the School. Advisors also offered recommendations to enhance teaching and learning outcomes by sharing their own experiences from the business and educational sectors.<\/p>

Guided by Professor Chiu, discussions touched on four significant topics: \u201cThe Application and Impact of Emerging Technologies like AI, including ChatGPT in University Education\u201d, \u201cStrategies to Foster Integration between Local and Non-local Students in Classroom Teaching\u201d, \u201cExploiting Industry Collaborations to Boost Fundraising Capabilities of Academic Institutes\u201d and “Methodologies to Amplify Student Competitiveness in Current Societal Context”. The insights shared during discussions were valued by all attendees and will be significant for the School to further enhance teaching and learning practices. To close the event, Professor Tso pledged that the School\u2019s committees will carefully review all recommendations made during the event to further refine pedagogical approaches, student enrolment procedures, and the School\u2019s overall development.<\/p>
