13 December 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) received the highest recognition from the Hong Kong Green Building Council, which manifested its commitment on environmental protection and campus sustainability. Among the new buildings in the campus,the S H Ho Academic Building (Block A), the Sports and Amenities Centre (BlockB), the Lee Quo Wei Academic (Block D), and the HSMC Jockey Club Residential Colleges achieved the \u201cPlatinum\u201d rating of BEAM Plus certification. HSMC is the first higher education institution in Hong Kong as well as the first local student sports and amenities building and student residential complex to receive such a \u201cPlatinum\u201d recognition.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

To make the occasion,<\/span>the \u201cBEAM Plus\u201d Platinum Project Certification Ceremony 2016 was held on 13 December 2016 by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC)<\/span>. Mr Martin Tam Tin Fong,\u00a0member of Board of Governors\u00a0and Former Chairman of Steering Committee on Campus Expansion, and HSMC representatives accepted the three certifications on behalf of HSMC.<\/p>\n

Mr Tam expressed his thanks to the HSMC <\/span>Board of Governors and all HSMC members in their great support of promoting sustainability. There are a lo<\/span>t of unique environmental protection elements in the campus, such as the district cooling system which reduces annual energy consumption, and the usage of bamboo for gardening, furniture and indoor decorations. Mr Tam hopes the concept of sustainability begins to take root and influences the students.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the highest honor inindustry\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cBeam Plus\u201d adopts rigorousstandards <\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cBEAM Plus\u201d which is initiated by <\/span>HKGBC<\/span> and <\/span>the Construction Industry Council (CIC), <\/span><\/span>adopts an internationally recognised environmental assessment scheme with rigorous standard based on six different aspects, namely \u201cIndoor Environmental Quality\u201d(IEQ), \u201cSite Aspects\u201d (SA), \u201cEnergy Use\u201d (EU), \u201cMaterial Aspects\u201d (MA), \u201cWater Use\u201d (WU) and \u201cInnovations and Additions\u201d (IA). HSMC has been highly evaluated in all aspects, especially <\/span>SA, IEQ, EU and IA. <\/span><\/p>\n

According to the \u201cBEAM Plus\u201d report, HSMC is commended for the <\/span>systematic environmental management and monitoring system, greatly reduces the impact on nearby surroundings, as well as the extensive usage of bamboo for furniture and indoor decorations. <\/span>HSMC has also adopted a large number of environmental friendly and energy-saving measures, including conducting energy use assessment and analysis to reduce energy consumption by 30%. It also uses advanced rainwater harvesting systems and water installations to control water usage, drastically reducing water consumption by 30%. The report also indicatedthat HSMC ensures freshness of air by modifying the ventilation system,enhancing the indoor environmental quality through various sustainable development strategies.<\/p>\n

Achieved the Platinum Ratings\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 HSMC carries through the \u201cEnvironment Nurturing Talents\u201d Education<\/b><\/p>\n

HSMC integrates education with environmental protection and sustainable development to create a rich learning environment, inspiring students, influencing their living habits and helping them to develop their potentials. HSMC is also known as \u201cJunzi University\u201d for the extensive use of bamboo within campus. It also proves the HSMC vision of providing all-round and holistic educational experience for students.<\/p>\n

HSMC will continue to follow the direction of “Environment Nurturing Talents” and take the leading role to promote environmental protection and sustainable development among the education sector.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
