The School of Communication (SCOM) held its fourth teaching sharing seminar of the 2022\u201323 academic year on May 11 2023. Dr Clio Wu, Assistant Professor of SCOM, moderated the seminar titled \u2019Quality Assurance of Teaching and Learning in the Post-Covid-19 Era\u2019.\u00a0 Mr Paul Yu, Ms Vivian Kam, Dr Sobel Chan and Dr Irina Yu were shared their teaching experiences from the previous academic year.<\/p>

Dr Clio Wu began the seminar by speaking about the difficulties in teaching and learning in the post-Covid-19 era. Dr Wu noted that encouraging students to participate in professional competitions can increase their enthusiasm to learn.<\/p>

Mr Paul Yu believes that students’ performance, including attendance and class involvement needs to be improve now that students are back in classrooms. As Mr Yu spent a lot of time communicating with students last year, he reflected that engaging with students outside of the classroom and encouraging them was more productive and helpful to students than just in-class communications.<\/p>

Ms Vivian Kam shared that she planned numerous activities for students such as in-class exercises and debates, to increase in-class \u00a0participation. Ms Kam believes that gathering feedback is also is an effective way to pique students\u2019 interest in learning. She also shared how she developed positive teacher-student relationships with her students by paying attention to them individually and showing that she cared about them.<\/p>

Dr Sobel Chan discussed the positive results of practical classes for students, such as the practical modules field trip he supervised where students learned how to make microfilm creations. He aldo acknowledged the substantial variations in students’ learning styles and pace, and noted that it\u2019s important for educators to devise strategies that effectively motivate and engage all learners.<\/p>

Dr Irina Yu observed the unique characteristics of SCOM students, recognising the diverse learning styles that exist not just within her class, but across different Schools as well. By tailoring her teaching approach to each student’s potential, she fosters strong relationships with them and is committed to enhancing their logical analysis abilities.<\/p>
