Introductory workshop on characteristics of different types of SEN and supporting strategies<\/p><p><strong><u>Objective:<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p>To build a disability inclusive society, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong has a long-standing commitment to helping students with severe or multiple disabilities overcome limitations and difficulties, attain a learning level commensurate with their abilities, and realise their potential.\u00a0<\/p><p>Jointly organised by the Student Affairs Office (SAO) and the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) again, this workshop aims to equip our teachers with information on Special Education (SE) and Inclusive Education (IE).<\/p><p>By attending the workshop, we, the HSUHKers, can together explore evidence-based support strategies on disability inclusion, so as to enable teachers to better meet the needs of students with SEN and foster their learning and development.<\/p><p><strong><u>Content: (The content of this workshop is different from the workshop in January)<\/u><\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Clarifying myths and misconceptions about people with mental illnesses;<\/li><li>Apart from exploring the nine different special learning needs, with a special focus on discussing and exploring cases of individuals with mild symptoms of mental illnesses, such as depression and anxiety; and\u00a0<\/li><li>Conducting case studies focused on classroom experiences of students with illnesses.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong><u>Details:<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p>Date: 1 June 2023 (Thursday)<br \/>Time: 4:15 \u2013 5:45 pm\u00a0 (Registration starts at 4 pm)<br \/>Venue: A314, 3\/F, S H Ho Academic Building<br \/>Language: English<br \/>Speaker: <strong>Mr. Vergo CHENG, <\/strong>Educational Psychologist at Heep Hong Society<br \/><em>(An identical workshop conducted in Cantonese will take place on the same day at 2:30 pm.)<\/em><\/p><p><strong><u>Speaker\u2019s bio:<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Mr. Vergo CHENG<\/strong><\/p><p>Registered Educational Psychologist (DEP, HKPS)<br \/>Accredited Educational Psychologist (HKAEP)<br \/>M.Soc.Sci. in Ed.Psy (HKU), M.A.P. in DLN (PolyU), B.A. in Psy (UCLA)<\/p><p>Mr. Cheng has rich experience in supporting young children with special educational needs, especially those with autism spectrum disorders. He served in an autism training center, a university-based child learning center, and mainstream schools before joining Heep Hong Society.<\/p><p>At Heep Hong Society, Mr. Cheng provides consultation services for teachers and parents on children\u2019s developmental and learning needs. He also conducts assessments and interventions for students. He is responsible for Tier 1 Pilot Project, OPRS, and EETC. In addition, Mr. Cheng works closely with adolescents and young adults at the youth center of the society. He provides career guidance and employment support services. He is also dedicated to advocating autism awareness and social inclusion.<\/p><p><strong>All staff are welcome to join!
