Environment Nurturing Talents: First University Sports and Amenities Building Achieving Platinum Rating<\/strong><\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

Hang Seng Management College (HSMC)announces its latest achievements on environmental protection and campussustainability.  Its Sports and AmenitiesCentre has recently achieved the Platinum rating underthe assessment scheme \u201c<\/span>BEAM Plus Version1.1 for New Buildings\u201d of the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC).  Thisaward is received after the S H Ho Academic Building with the samePlatinum rating in November 2014, both of which are the first of its kind in Hong Kong<\/st1:place>.  HSMC isproud to be the first higher education institution in Hong Kong with a \u201cPlatinum\u201d s<\/span><\/span>ports and amenities centre as well as a \u201cPlatinum\u201d academicbuilding.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, HSMC also <\/span>attained the provisional Platinum rating (BEAM PlusVersion 1.2 for New Buildings) for its HSMC Jockey Club Residential Colleges inJuly 2014, the first time for such rating to be awarded to a studentresidential complex of a local university. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As one of the foremostadvocates for green campus in the region, HSMC always upholds the principle ofsustainability in its campus development. The eco-friendly bamboo material has been extensively used for indoordecorations and furniture, and many innovative green measures have beenadopted.  With regard to the new Sportsand Amenities Centre, the environmental features include bamboo wall panels,shading device, full height window to allow penetration of daylight, bamboofloors in the Sports Hall and the dance studio, and areas designated forplanting organic vegetables at the green roof top.  This advanced complex also has a fitnesscentre, a multi-purpose room, a music room, two restaurants, and a 6-laneindoor swimming pool, with extensive energy-saving measures being adopted.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The substantial recognitionsfrom HKGBC manifested HSMC\u2019s innovations and commitments on cultivating a greencampus.  HSMC will continue its endeavourto provide a green and sustainable campus environment for the all-round learningdevelopment of its students.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

About  the BEAM Plus Rating<\/u><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

BEAM Plus is a comprehensive environmentalassessment scheme for buildings recognised by the HKGBC.  It includes the six aspects of a buildingproject: (1) Site Aspects; (2) Materials Aspects, (3) Energy Use; (4) WaterUse; (5) Indoor Environmental Quality and (6) Innovations and Additions.
