{"id":5318,"date":"2015-05-04T16:13:26","date_gmt":"2015-05-04T10:13:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hsu.edu.hk\/?p=5318"},"modified":"2024-01-16T11:35:18","modified_gmt":"2024-01-16T03:35:18","slug":"977-aaao-20150507161554","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hsu.edu.hk\/en\/977-aaao-20150507161554\/","title":{"rendered":"Naming Ceremony for Lee Quo Wei Academic Building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"art-article\">\n<p><strong>4 May 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Naming Ceremony for Lee Quo Wei Academic Building<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><BR><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Hang<\/st1:place><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Seng<\/st1:place><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Management<\/st1:place><st1:place w:st=\"on\">College<\/st1:place>(HSMC) has named the Academic and Administration Building (Block D) as \u201c<st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Lee<\/st1:place><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Quo<\/st1:place><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Wei<\/st1:place><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Academic<\/st1:place><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Building<\/st1:place><\/st1:place>\u201d in grateful appreciation of theWei Lun Foundation Limited\u2019s significant donation of HK$80 million thatsupports HSMC\u2019s campus expansion, teaching and research. It is also a specialtribute to the late Dr Lee Quo Wei\u2019s tireless devotion to education in <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Hong Kong<\/st1:place>. <o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the Naming Ceremony held on 4 May 2015, Mrs HelenLee, Mr Thomas Liang, Chief Executive of the Wei Lun Foundation, Mrs AnnieLiang, Ms Rose Lee, Chairman of the HSMC Board of Governors and College Council,and Professor Simon S M Ho, President of HSMC, unveiled the bronze statue of DrLee Quo Wei and the commemorative plaque. Over 180 guests, including the familymembers and friends of Dr Lee Quo Wei, HSMC staff, students and alumni attendedthe Ceremony.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr Lee Quo Wei was a substantial contributor to thedevelopment of HSMC. In early 1970s, Dr S H Ho decided to establish a tertiaryinstitution that fosters banking and financial talents. In 1980, Dr Leeacquired land for campus construction of Hang Seng School of Commerce (HSSC) atSiu Lek Yuen, Shatin. Between 1979 and 1994, Dr Lee also served HSSC as itsVice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Management Committeeand Supervisor.&nbsp; <o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ms Rose Lee applauded Dr Lee as a widely respectedbanker and philanthropist. He was commended for his wisdom and remarkablecontribution towards public service and higher education in <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Hong Kong<\/st1:place>. Ms Lee also expressed sincere gratitude to Lee\u2019s family andthe Wei Lun Foundation for supporting HSMC\u2019s sustainable development.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr Thomas Liang remarked that the Wei Lun Foundationwill continue to carry on Dr Lee\u2019s lifetime commitment to education in <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Hong Kong<\/st1:place>, nurturing future talents and supporting HSMC\u2019sdevelopment.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking at theCeremony, President Simon S M Ho said, the HSMC community was encouraged forthe rapid development in the past five years and recognition by the Governmentand the public. Except lands and interest-free loans for campus expansiongranted by the Government, HSMC is a self-financing tertiary institution whichhas been actively soliciting donations from the community in support of its expansion,part of the academic activities and student scholarships. He appreciated theWei Lun Foundation for the generous donation and hoped that it will inspiremore people and organisations to support HSMC\u2019s development to become a leadingnon-profit private university.
