Visualising the Mission of HSMC via Responsible Management Education (PRME, UN Global compact)<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Riding on the achievement of obtaining a full score of “5” from HKQAA Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Index in November, 2014, Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) has become a Signatory Institution of the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, PRME with commitment to implement the Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) in its operation, for example, management and staff level, programme and module level, student and community level for sustainability. This is the first private higher educational institution in Hong Kong under the signatory institution list of PRME, the first organised relationship between the United Nations and management-related academic institutions, business schools, and universities. <\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

HSMC is committed to advancing knowledge and understanding human activities related to business and management; to nurture innovative and enterprising leaders for a knowledge-based economy; to provide an education which focuses on theoretical exploration, professional knowledge and skills as well as business ethics; and to be committed to free enquiry and responsible scholarship. With committed staff, HSMC is devoted to: <\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
– Developing students’ talents in the business and management areas with an ethical and social responsible mind set to become a responsible leader with all-rounded exposure and development (see photo 1);<\/span><\/div>\n
– <\/span>Embeding sustainability and<\/span> corporate<\/span> social responsibility into innovative curriculum for economic, social and environmental impacts; and<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
– <\/span>Seeking ways to enhance effective learning via research, partnership and dialogue with different stakeholders for diversity and for building transformative power of liberal and professional education. (see photo 2)    <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

The success of visualising the mission of HSMC and implementing the Principles of Responsible Management (PRME) well rely on the on-going communication and collaboration of internal and external stakeholders. HSMC looks forward to being able to add value to students and to transform itself into a private university. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Appendix <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Principle 1 | Purpose<\/span>: We will develop the capabilities of students to be future generators of sustainable value for business and society at large and to work for an inclusive and sustainable global economy.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Principle 2 | Values<\/span>: We will incorporate into our academic activities and curricula the values of global social responsibility as portrayed in international initiatives such as the United Nations Global Compact<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Principle 3 | Method<\/span>: We will create educational frameworks, materials, processes and environments that enable effective learning experiences for responsible leadership<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Principle 4 | Research<\/span>: We will engage in conceptual and empirical research that advances our understanding about the role, dynamics, and impact of corporations in the creation of sustainable social, environmental and economic value.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Principle 5 | Partnership<\/span>: We will interact with managers of business corporations to extend our knowledge of their challenges in meeting social and environmental responsibilities and to explore jointly effective approaches to meeting these challenges<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Principle 6 | Dialogue<\/span>: We will facilitate and support dialog and debate among educators, students, business, government, consumers, media, civil society organisations and other interested groups and stakeholders on critical issues related to global social responsibility and sustainability.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
