The\u00a0Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) held its Second Honorary Doctorate Conferment Ceremony on campus today (22 August), conferring honorary doctorates on four outstanding individuals in recognition of their remarkable accomplishments and contributions to society and the University. The Ceremony was officiated by Ms Diana CESAR, Chairman of HSUHK Board of Governors and Dr the Hon Moses CHENG Mo-chi, Chairman of HSUHK Council.<\/p>

The four honoured recipients are: Dr Vincent CHENG Hoi-chuen (Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa<\/em>), Dr Martin LEE Ka-shing (Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa<\/em>), Professor Leo LEE Ou-fan (Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa<\/em>) and Dr David SIN Wai-kin (Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa<\/em>) (in alphabetical order by last name).<\/p>

Addressing the Ceremony, Simon S. M. HO, President of HSUHK, stressed that the four notable recipients had made profound contributions to the advancement of education and society, \u201cTheir values in life and work, and commitment to serve, are consonant with HSUHK\u2019s core values: Mutual Trust, Value-addedness, Innovativeness, Caring Attitude, and Responsibility. They have served as exemplary role models for HSUHK students, inspiring them to build upon their talents and drive positive changes in society, with a commitment to the pursuit of excellence. The University is immensely honoured to have close connections with these four eminent individuals.\u201d<\/p>

Professor Leo LEE spoke on behalf of the four Honorary Doctorate recipients. He commended HSUHK\u2019s grand mission of nurturing young talents into global citizens with critical thinking, innovative minds, caring attitudes, moral values and social responsibility, as it was a social obligation necessary especially for the world in the immediate future.<\/p>

Professor LEE encouraged the attendees to learn how to endure even on a daily basis. \u201cIn this new age of \u2018social distancing\u2019 caused by the pandemic, each of us is forced to look into ourselves in order to find the necessary moral strength. This is how I find the University\u2019s motto \u2018Erudition and Perseverance\u2019 still relevant.\u201d In addition, he remarked that \u201cperseverance\u201d had become a daily necessity for him, and that everyone had to learn to endure and persevere before they could prevail. He concluded the speech by sharing his own set of values \u2013 honesty, integrity, dignity, decency, and humility.<\/p>
