The School of Communication (SCOM) held its fourth teaching sharing seminar of AY 2021\/22 on 3 May 2022. The sharing session was moderated by Assistant Professors Dr Sammy Hu and Dr Clio Wu,. Most full-time and part-time teaching staff members of SCOM were present to share their teaching experiences.<\/p>


Dr Wu shared with the participants her observation that the proportion of senior-year students in SCOM had been steadily increasing over the years. These senior-year students\u2019 needs and interests were different from those of the junior year students. Therefore, more attention should be paid to how teaching methods could be employed to effectively facilitate senior-year students\u2019 acquisition of in-depth knowledge and lay a foundation for their career development upon graduation. In response, the participating Professors and Lecturers shared their observations gained from their interactions with senior-year students during classes and consultation sessions. They also made recommendations on how to better understand students\u2019 needs and interests, so as to help them develop their careers in the future. The participants all felt inspired by the enthusiastic discussions. They were of the view that this kind of seminars could provide them with the opportunities to exchange ideas and experiences, and hoped that SCOM would continue to organise similar activities for the teachers in the next academic year.<\/p>

Mr Roger Wong, who possesses extensive experience in reporting financial news, shared how he aroused students\u2019 interest in learning about the operation of the financial and stock markets through class activities, such as inviting students to act as stockbrokers to make virtual investments. \n<\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Ms Janice Wong, Part-time Lecturer, shared her observations on HSUHK students in terms of learning attitude and personality in comparison with students of other higher educational institutions.
