To express our warmest welcome to the parents of our newly admitted students to the HSUHK family, strengthen the exchange and connection between parents and the University, as well as share the University\u2019s latest development with the parents, the Student Affairs Office organised the finale of the New Students Orientation Series 2021, the Parents Orientation, on 23 October 2021. The theme of the orientation series this year is \u2018\u540c\u6052Goal@HSUHK\u2019, implying that students, teachers, staff, parents and alumni are family members and all are HSUHKers, while the pronunciation of \u2018\u6052(Hang)\u2019 and \u2018\u884c(Walk)\u2019 are the same, symbolising that we walk together in all weather.<\/p>

Bringing together over 200 parents, students and staff at the Auditorium and live stream through Zoom, the Parents Orientation kicked off with a welcoming address and an introduction of the University\u2019s latest development by President Simon S M Ho. The Panel Discussion Session \u2013 \u2018Goal@HSUHK\u2019 followed, hosted by Ms Esther Lee, Director of Student Affairs; with Dr Dacon Dai, the University Counsellor; Ms Julie Chung, a fresh graduate of BBA-MGT; and Ms Vanessa Cheung, Year 4 BBA-CG student, as the guest speakers to share their views and experiences in adapting to the university life. Both students also talked about their interaction and relationships with parents, staff and fellow students at HSUHK. Julie shared, \u201cThe University provided a full range of support to me in academic study and career preparation. Students and teachers have a very close and interactive relationship, providing me and other students with proactive and all-rounded support.\u201d On the other hand, Vanessa shared tips on how to maintain a good relationship with fellow classmates and parents, \u201cMaking joint efforts is a crucial element for maintaining good and constructive relationships. Being active is essential for making new friends in the University\u2026Grip the chance to communicate with your parents. In order to ease their worries, you may take the initiative to share your campus life with them\u201d. Dr Dai and Ms Lee, in echoing the students\u2019 perspectives and putting the hats of the parents, also highlighted the tips on adjusting university life, parent-child communication improvement and relationship building.<\/p>

President Ho addressed that by adopting the unique \u2018Liberal + Professional\u2019 education model, the learning experience at HSUHK is characterised by small-class teaching and close teacher-student relationship. The University puts quality teaching and students\u2019 all-round development on its highest priorities, aiming at nurturing young talents with leadership skills and a caring heart. HSUHK is the first self-financed higher education institution in Hong Kong to adopt a Residential College system to create a \u2018living and learning\u2019 environment, and to provide students with holistic learning experiences.<\/p>

Afterwards, parents were arranged to interact with academic staff of different Departments to have a better understanding on the curriculum and the support services available for students to enhance their studies at HSUHK. Campus tours presented by Student Ambassadors and staff were then arranged for parents to visit various teaching and learning facilities, Residential Colleges, as well as the award-winning green buildings on campus. Participating parents were delighted with the opportunity to learn more about HSUHK and meet with the University Management and staff in person. Some parents reflected that \u201cthe event ran smoothly and enhanced their understanding of HSUHK \u201d and \u201cthe student ambassadors and student representatives were proactive and polite when introducing the campus facilities and sharing their campus life at HSUHK.\u201d<\/p>
