We were honoured to have Mr Desmond So, Founder and Chief Consultant of East-West Institution of Applied Etiquette, share about the importance of etiquette with over 680 students and staff participating on-site and online in the College Assembly \u2013 HSUHK Liberal Agora in February, which was held on 25 February 2021.<\/p>

Etiquette is more than which cutlery to be used, instead it is an everyday expression of self-respect and respect for others. It is the unspoken rule that exists over years, governing our everyday behaviour. With reference to his personal experience and data, Mr So explained that etiquette does not only affect our personal image, but also interpersonal relationship, the sense of belonging of staff to a company and business image. He further shared that practising good manner doesn\u2019t cost a penny, but it will bring us benefits and every little thing counts; and good communication is a crucial element in etiquette. When asked if being too polite could be overkill, he replied, \u201cYou will never be too polite when it comes from your heart, but being impolite will make you miss chances.\u201d<\/p>

Mr Desmon So said, \u201cEtiquette in social interactions that used to be friendly gestures can turn into awkward situations now due to social distancing under the pandemic. Shaking hands, for instance, is a bit difficult. However, an elbow bump or even a foot tap are good alternatives. The format doesn\u2019t matter as long as there is sincerity.\u201d<\/p>
