Over 300 HSUHK students were awarded more than HK$6 million scholarships in total by the Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme (SPSS) in 2019\/20 academic year, which include the Outstanding Performance Scholarship, the Best Progress Award, the Talent Development Scholarship, the Reaching Out Award and the Endeavour Scholarship, in recognition of their outstanding performance in academic, art, sports and innovations. Both the number of awardees and the scholarship amount hit record high.<\/p>

Ms Wing-wa Chan, Year-3 student of Bachelor of Management Science and Information Management (Honours) Programme, is one of the awardees of the Endeavour Scholarship. Though severely hearing-impaired, she always stays positive and works hard on learning piano and double bass. She expressed sincere gratitude to the University for its support, helping her get into campus life. \u201cThe University prepares for me a microphone specifically designed for people with hearing impairment, so that I am able to listen to lectures clearly in a noisy environment and from a distance. In addition, encouragement from teachers and the special examination arrangements by the University motivate me to further my study in Japanese.\u201d She looks forward to working in the information technology industry in the future and contributing to society with her knowledge.<\/p>

Demonstrating excellence in sports, Ms Monique Hui, a student of Bachelor of Business Administration (concentration in Accounting), was awarded the Talent Development Scholarship. She started squash training since childhood and went to Finland for exchange in Year 3, after that she continued her squash training there and ranked sixth in Helsinki Satellite 2018, a Finnish international squash competition organised by Professional Squash Association. \u201cI usually compete with Asians in Southeast Asian tournaments. It was a valuable experience for me to have the opportunity to play against European players, while many of them are national team members.\u201d Monique founded HSUHK Squash Team in 2016, leading the team to make remarkable achievements as Team Captain. She hopes to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and pass on her experiences and skills to teammates, driving the team to scale new heights.<\/p>
