The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) was deeply honoured to have received a generous donation from Ms Rose Lee Wai Mun in support of the University\u2019s strategic development, its Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Corporate Governance programme, and the establishment of the \u201cRose W M Lee Entrance Scholarship in Corporate Governance\u201d. The Naming Ceremony of \u201cLee Ping Yuen Chamber\u201d was held on 23 Nov 2018 to show the University\u2019s deepest appreciation of Ms Lee\u2019s unswerving support.<\/p>\n

Witnessed by over 100 honourable guests, students, alumni and staff members, the ceremony was officiated by Ms Rose Lee, Mr Francis Yuen, Mr Andrew Lee, Ms Mary Lee, Dr Moses Cheng, Council Chairman; Dr Patrick Poon, Chairman of the Foundation Management Committee and Fundraising and Donation Committee; and President Simon S M Ho.<\/p>\n

Ms Rose Lee has maintained a very close affiliation with the University. She was Chairman of the Board of Governors of Hang Seng Management College (HSMC, predecessor of HSUHK) from 2013 to 2018, leading the management team to lay the foundation for the University\u2019s far-reaching achievements.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Dr Moses Cheng expressed his sincere gratitude to Ms Lee for her dedication to the University. During her tenure as Board Chairman, she contributed valuable advice and support to lead the management team and bring together the strengths of all stakeholders of the University. As a result, HSUHK succeeded in becoming the eleventh university in Hong Kong, and also the first private institution to fulfil all standards in institutional review since the Education Bureau\u2019s publication in 2015 of the roadmap of criteria for acquiring university title. The \u201cLee Ping Yuen Chamber\u201d was named in memory of Ms Lee\u2019s late father to convey HSUHK Family\u2019s heartfelt gratitude for Ms Lee\u2019s generous donation in support of the University and student development.<\/p>\n

In her speech, Ms Lee said she was pleased to have witnessed the University\u2019s ongoing progress and widespread recognition in society because of its academic research excellence, quality of teaching and student achievements. The recent acquisition of university title will be a cornerstone for its future development. Ms Lee strongly supported the corporate governance programme of HSUHK and looked forward to more short courses, seminars and conferences to be organised by the University, which she believed would help to promote public financial literacy and reinforce Hong Kong\u2019s standing as an international financial hub. She also hoped that the industry would offer adequate internship opportunities for HSUHK students to acquire practical experience in the field.<\/p>\n

In his vote of thanks, President Simon Ho stressed HSUHK\u2019s aspiration to become a leading liberal-arts-oriented private university in the region. With Ms Lee\u2019s timely contributions, HSUHK managed to receive more support under the Government\u2019s Seventh Matching Grant Scheme. This provides greater benefits for the University\u2019s development and its students. President Ho called for greater support from the wider community, so that HSUHK could nurture future talents for the corporate governance industry and further contribute to the higher education in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
