Arts at HSMC<\/em>\u00a0 brings to campus \u201cCHANCES TO POSSIBILITIES\u201d \u2013 Exhibitions on Japanese Pressed Flower Art by Dr Serina Ha Miu Yin<\/span><\/strong> with details as follows:<\/p>\n

Date:\u00a0 9 to 30 April 2018 (except Sundays and public holidays)
\nTime:\u00a0 9 am \u2013 6 pm
\nVenue:\u00a0 G\/F, Lee Quo Wei Academic Building<\/p>\n

An opening reception<\/strong> with Dr Serina Ha\u2019s presence will be held at 6 pm on 10 April 2018 (Tuesday) at the exhibition venue. Students and staff are welcome. In the same afternoon, Dr Ha will conduct a \u201cJapanese Pressed Flower Workshop\u201d (already full), which is part of HSMC\u2019s \u201cJapanese Cultural Week\u201d.<\/p>\n

The World of Japanese Pressed Flowers<\/strong><\/span>
\nPressed flower craft is the art of using pressed flowers and other botanical materials to create an entire picture from these natural elements. Flowers, petals, leaves and other organic materials are pressed until dry and flat, using a variety of pressing techniques. This craft has long been practised as an art form in China and in Japan, where it is known as Oshibana (\u62bc\u3057\u82b1). As early as in the 16th century, Samurai warriors were said to have studied the art of Oshibana as a means of enhancing their powers of concentration and of promoting patience and harmony with nature. Princess Grace of Monaco practised Oshibana and helped promote the art of pressed flowers worldwide.<\/p>\n

Dr Serina Ha Miu Yin<\/strong><\/span>
\nDr Serina Ha is an expert in media and creative industry. She holds a PhD in Japanese Studies from School of Modern Languages and Cultures at The University of Hong Kong. She is an accomplished Japanese botanic artist and a pressed flower and L’\u00e9crin instructor of the Japan Fushigina Pressed Flower Association. Her works received notable awards in major international competitions.\u00a0 Some of her winning pieces are on display at the exhibition.
