Documentary film \u201c7%\u201d, the new creation by Golden Horse Award-winning Director Zhou Hao, was on its debut at Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) today. The World Premiere was a programme of the \u201cHSMC Global Humanities Initiative\u201d organised by HSMC in association with Asian New Humanities Network (ANHN) and the UNESCO Chair in Asian Humanities and Global Network.<\/p>\n

HSMC President Simon S M Ho, Professor Luiz Oosterbeek and Mr John Crowley from UNESCO, gave opening remarks at the kick-off of the \u201cHSMC Global Humanities Initiative\u201d before the World Premiere of \u201c7%\u201d. The director followed the victorious journey of online artificial intelligence (AI) programme \u201cFine Art\u201d, which defeated top-ranked Go players in Computer Go UEC Cup 2017 in Japan. With the attention of the industry and academia on the victory of \u201cFine Art\u201d, the film provides food for thought on the future of AI and humanity. Director Zhou believed that man should ponder how to make the best out of AI, not to fear.<\/p>\n

At an interview, Zhou said that the title of the documentary \u201c7%\u201d was derived from the saying of Japanese Go champion Hideyuki Fujisawa about the limits of human intelligence in Go. It denotes that human\u2019s understanding of the universe is barely the tip of an iceberg. On the film shooting, Zhou interviewed academia and industry experts. They believed that AI, as invented by human as a tool, would not easily replace human intelligence in two to three decades. Whereas Professor Wu Yan of the Southern University of Science and Technology, also famous science fiction writer, considered that the revolutionary impact of AI on humanity may be felt sooner than we expect.<\/p>\n

The pre-screening seminar of the film was co-hosted by Professor Desmond Hui of the School of Humanities and Social Science, HSMC, and Ms Camera Wang, Director of Tencent Think Tank and Social Research Centre, Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Co Ltd. The guest speakers were Director Zhou and Professor Wu.<\/p>\n

Academics from HSMC, Xiamen University, The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, National Taiwan University and Zhejiang University gathered at HSMC to discuss new initiatives as proposed at the World Humanities Conference in Belgium in August 2017. ANHN President Hsiung Ping-cheng and Professor Dai Yi-feng of Xiamen University Tan Kah Kee College introduced events that would be held at Xiamen University in April 2018. Professor Bradley Barnes, Dean of School of Business of HSMC, introduced the plan for a workshop on Management of Social Transformation School (MOST School) scheduled for July 2018.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
