The First Honorary Fellowship Conferment Ceremony was held on 22 May 2017 on HSMC campus. \u00a0Six recipients of HSMC\u2019s Honorary Fellowship this year are: Mr David Lai HO, Mr Samuel LAM Shau-Tong, Mrs Helen LEE YICK Hoi-Lun, Mr Kenneth LEUNG Ka-Keung, Dr Raymond OR Ching-Fai, and Dr Michael SUEN Ming-Yeung.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ms Rose Lee Wai-Mun, Chairman of Board of Governors, said, \u201cI would like to express our gratitude to the inaugural Honorary Fellows and all the stakeholders for supporting the College in its drive to achieve non-profit private university status. \u00a0HSMC will continue in its mission to provide students with opportunities of all-rounded development, and to foster teaching and research excellence for the development of the local self-financed higher education sector.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr Moses Cheng Mo-Chi, Chairman of College Council, said that the six Honorary Fellows, who are connected to HSMC in their unique ways, are distinguished and admired for their valuable contributions to the College, to their sectors or professions and to the community. \u00a0HSMC has also embarked upon the pursuit of university title and shall continue to fulfil the mission of nurturing young people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Simon Ho congratulated the six distinguished persons, who supported the College development and provided invaluable advice to the management. \u00a0He also hoped that HSMC\u2019s relationship with the six Honorary Fellows can be further strengthened and that they will continue to give us guidance and support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr Suen delivered his address on behalf of the Honorary Fellows at the Ceremony. \u00a0He recalled that the most memorable period of his civil service was in 1972, when he was with the Sha Tin District Office and took part in new town planning. \u00a0Siu Lek Yuen, HSMC\u2019s existing location, was part of the Sha Tin town planning. \u00a0HSMC inherits the tradition of its successful predecessor of providing quality education to students. \u00a0It has also passed robust accreditation exercises and would soon acquire university status to nurture many more leaders for the community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr Suen went on sharing his insights on personality traits of leaders. \u00a0He believed that all leaders, no matter how he\/she was delegated the authority, should exercise his\/her magnanimity, courage and wisdom to lead the way through a multitude of skepticism, uncertainties and doubts. \u00a0The leader may have to bear the risk of losing the next election though, it is literally the balance of power under a democratic system. \u00a0 He highlighted that leaders must be able to make visionary and determined decisions. A leader\u2019s vocation is to lead the mass. \u00a0If all things are to be done according to populism, there is no need to choose a leader.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bibliographies of the six Honorary Fellows are as follows:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Mr David Lai Ho<\/strong> is the owner and President of Pacific BMW. \u00a0He was the CEO of more than 13 car dealerships, as well as the President of two property developers in Los Angeles (LA). \u00a0The Pacific BMW has been offering three-month internship placements in LA to many HSMC students. \u00a0The placement provides an opportunity for students to gain not only international experience, but also personal growth. \u00a0Inheriting his grandfather Dr S H Ho\u2019s belief \u201cTaking from society and giving back to society\u201d when founding the Hang Seng Bank, Mr Ho, as Governor of the S H Ho Foundation, has been very supportive of the development of HSSC and HSMC. \u00a0Since the establishment of HSMC in 2010, the S H Ho Foundation has donated more than HK$98 million to the College to support its campus development and student scholarships.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Mr Samuel Lam Shau-Tong<\/strong>, the fifth son of Mr Lam Bing-Yim, founder of Hang Seng Bank, is the former Director and Deputy General Manager of Dah Chong Hong Limited (DCH) and Dah Chong Hong (Motor Service Centre) Limited, as well as former Executive Chairman of Dah Chong Hong (China) Motor Service Limited. \u00a0With creative initiative and management resolve, DCH Motor Group had been the trailblazer in the automobile sector under his leadership. \u00a0He was invited to be the keynote speaker for the big three auto manufacturers and major distributors at the US motor city, Detroit. \u00a0Mr Lam has, for many years, spared no effort in education services. \u00a0He was a member of the Board of Governors of Hang Seng School of Commerce (HSSC), and a member of the Founding Board of Governors of HSMC for the first two years since its establishment in 2010. \u00a0As an ardent supporter of charities, he served many terms as District Secretary and District Governor Representative of District 3450 of Rotary International, Honorary Advisor of three districts Rotary Club of Hong Kong, and multi-time Organising Chairman of the District Assembly of Rotary Club.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Mrs Helen Lee Yick Hoi-Lun<\/strong>, Chairman, Wei Lun Foundation Limited, and spouse of the late Dr the Honourable Lee Quo-Wei, GBM, is an exemplar of a virtuous wife. \u00a0Dr Lee was an iconic banker. \u00a0With Mrs Lee\u2019s unswerving support, he was able to concentrate his efforts on public services. \u00a0In the early 1970s, the late Dr S H Ho intended to nurture banking and finance talents by setting up a training school. \u00a0Dr Lee therefore liaised with the government on lands application. \u00a0Mrs Lee accompanied Dr Lee in frequent on-site inspections during its construction. \u00a0Dr Lee assumed various pivotal roles in HSSC \u2013 Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the College Council and Chancellor. \u00a0All the time, his accomplishments were made with solid backing by Mrs Lee. \u00a0Through Wei Lun Foundation Limited, the couple made numerous donations to local and overseas educational and medical institutions. \u00a0Mrs Lee was awarded the title of \u201cHonorary Citizen\u201d by the cities of Jiangmen and Kaiping. \u00a0To commemorate Dr Lee and to carry on his efforts in supporting education, Mrs Lee made a generous donation to HSMC to name and construct the Lee Quo Wei Academic Building through the Wei Lun Foundation Limited. \u00a0Mrs Lee is a paradigm of a devoted wife and responsible citizen in her tireless and generous efforts in serving her family and the community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Mr Kenneth Leung Ka-Keung<\/strong> is currently Chairman of Board of Directors, Leung Chun Woon Kee Co Ltd, as well as founder and Chairman of Board of Directors, Leung Chun Woon Kee (Service Consultant) Co Ltd. \u00a0He earned a Diploma of Business Studies from Hang Seng School of Commerce in 1982 and was among its first cohort of graduates. \u00a0He synthesized elements of his industry experiences and published a book titled Bereavement: Observances with Rites\u300a\u796d\u4e4b\u4ee5\u79ae\u300bin the hope to elucidate the rites in Chinese culture and uphold filial piety. \u00a0Since 2011, he is Chairman of the Alumni Association of HSMC and HSSC; and is currently a mentor of HSMC\u2019s mentorship programme. \u00a0Mr Leung has been actively serving the community for many years. \u00a0He was the Chairman and President of the Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre (HKJCC), Vice-Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, Senior Assistant Commissioner and Regional Commander of Hong Kong &amp; Island of Hong Kong Road Safety Association, and School Manager\/Supervisor of several schools. \u00a0His contributions to social service have been recognised by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Social Welfare Department of the Government of the HKSAR.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dr Raymond Or Ching-Fai<\/strong>, a renowned banker, began his career with the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Limited in 1972. \u00a0He was appointed as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the China Strategic Holdings Limited in 2009 and re-designated as Chairman in 2012. \u00a0With HSBC, he was promoted to General Manager in 2000 and Director in 2005. \u00a0He was also appointed as the Chairman of HSBC Insurance Limited in 2000. \u00a0He took up the position of Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank Limited, as well as the Chairman of Hang Seng Insurance Co Limited and Hang Seng Bank (China) Limited in 2005. \u00a0Dr Or has been actively participating in public services. \u00a0He is currently Vice Patron of the Board of the Community Chest of Hong Kong. \u00a0He is also a Justice of the Peace since 2004. \u00a0He was awarded a Silver Bauhinia Star by the Government of the HKSAR in 2009. \u00a0Dr Or was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of HSSC from 2005 to 2009. \u00a0Under his leadership, the School was geared towards transforming itself from a matriculation school into a post-secondary college, which laid the foundation for HSMC becoming a non-profit private university.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dr Michael Suen Ming-Yeung<\/strong> was the Secretary for Education. \u00a0In 1966, he began his lifetime career in civil service and held different positions in various departments including the former Transport Department, Urban Services Department and Regional Services Department. \u00a0He was appointed Secretary for Constitutional Affairs in 1989 and Secretary for Home Affairs in 1991. \u00a0He was pivotal in ensuring the smooth transition during Hong Kong\u2019s handover to China. \u00a0Between March to July in 1997, he was on temporary secondment to the Office of the Chief Executive-elect as Secretary for Policy Co-ordination. Shortly afterwards in August 1997, he took up the position as Secretary for Constitutional Affairs. \u00a0He became the Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands in 2002. \u00a0Dr Suen was appointed Secretary for Education in 2007. \u00a0During that period, he made tremendous contributions to the development of higher education in Hong Kong. \u00a0HSMC\u2019s transformational achievement has been an outcome owing to the policy objectives of the Education Bureau and the resultant higher education environment. \u00a0Dr Suen was awarded a Gold Bauhinia Star by the Government of the HKSAR.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/0B_PDPbt_CTCudkF1WlF3OEFNOHM\/view?usp=sharing\">\u5b6b\u660e\u63da\u535a\u58eb\u4ee3\u8868\u69ae\u8b7d\u9662\u58eb\u81f4\u8fad<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/0B_PDPbt_CTCuSW1VWlVkWnJjU0U\/view?usp=sharing\">Welcome Remarks by Professor Simon S.
