Ms Lorraine Choi, a graduate from the BA (Hons) English programme this year, has been selected as a Highly Commended Entrant of the Global Undergraduate Awards 2020 in the Literature Category with her academic project, \u2018The Death of Chivalry: A Corpus Linguistics Study on Arthurian Legends’. She is the only Hong Kong student receiving this award in the Literature category.<\/p>\n

The Global Undergraduate Awards is the world\u2019s leading academic awards programme which recognises outstanding academic coursework from undergraduate students and recent graduates globally. This year it has received 4,148 submissions from 380 institutions in 50 countries. It was encouraging that Lorraine\u2019s work stood out with those from students of other top universities in the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a0Hung\u00a0Sze Kun<\/span>, Year-4 student from the BA (Hons) in Chinese programme, received the Merit Award in the Students\u2019 Section of The 30th Chinese Poetry Writing Competition in 2020. Her entry, themed \u2018The Scenery of Spring at Oi Man Estate\u2019, was written based on the melody of Yujia\u2019ao<\/em>. This is the fourth time in a row that students from the programme won prizes in the competition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chinese Poetry Writing Competition is organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries since 1991. It aims at enhancing the Chinese language proficiency of the public and their ability to appreciate verse. This year\u2019s\u00a0 competition received keen responses and there were more than 600 submissions. For the Students\u2019 Section, selected candidates were required to attend an interview to improvise couplets before their rankings were finalised. Winning entries are now on roving exhibition at various public libraries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Shum Kwan Lun (BA-CHI, Year 2) received a Merit Award in the 27th Chinese Poetry Writing Competition in 2017<\/strong>\u00a0organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries, Leisure and Cultural Services Department to promote the proficiency in Chinese language and the appreciation of\u00a0Chinese literature with rhymes. The competition received more than 1,000 entries from the open and the student categories. Winning entries were on display at various public libraries.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers<\/strong> is set up by the Education Bureau with the aim to attract talents with proficiency in English to pursue relevant local bachelor degree programmes and\/ or programmes for teacher training qualification. In the Academic Year 2016\/17, there are 50 scholarships offered to 10 institutions. Rameen (BA-ENG) is our first student to receive this honour.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
