To commend outstanding students who have completed degree programmes in logistics, engineering or supply chain management in Hong Kong in 2020\/21, The Hong Kong Institute of Engineers – Logistics and Transportation Division (HKIE LTD) organised The HKIE LTD Best Students Papers Awards 2021 with the theme of \u2018Green and Smart Logistic\u2019, thereby promoting innovative ideas and research on the design and implementation of sustainable logistics and transportation systems in the territory. The papers submitted by the participating students were reviewed and assessed by a Judging Panel appointed by HKIE LTE Award Committee. After several rounds of selection, including documentary assessment and video presentation, Mr Manviel Tam of the BBA (Hons) in Supply Chain Management (BBA-SCM) Programme won the competition with his paper entitled \u2018Design of Robotic Process Automation Solution for Cold Chain Management\u2019. The awards ceremony was successfully held on 22 June 2022.<\/p>

\"\"The Hong Kong Logistics Case Competition 2022, organised by Hong Kong Logistics Association, was held from 3 to 5 June 2022. It aimed to enhance the practical problem-solving skills and creative thinking ability of post-secondary logistics students to foster their career development.<\/p>

In the competition, each team of students was given a simulated logistics management problem and was required to come up with solutions in a limited period of time. A total of 10 teams from local educational institutions in Hong Kong took part in this competition. Finally, Year 2 Student of the BBA (Hons) in Supply Chain Management (BBA-SCM) Programme Ms Charlotte Ho and her teammates outside HSUHK won the 2nd runner-up with their excellent performance.<\/p>

\"MonsoonSIM<\/a><\/p>

The MonsoonSIM Enterprise Resource Management (Online Business Simulation Game) Hong Kong Competition was completed successfully on 12 June 2021. The School of Business (SBUS) and the School of Decision Sciences (SDSC) of HSUHK\u00a0sent 11 student teams to compete with those from other universities in Hong Kong. Four teams entered the Grand Final Round while 2 of them were awarded the Champion and the 2nd Runner-up respectively.<\/p>

The teams \u2018Ambition\u2019, \u2018Brilliantstan\u2019, \u2018Geni+us\u2019 and \u2018NexTTrendyLeveL\u2019 were shortlisted as four of the top 9 teams in the Grand Final Round. After a vigorous competition, \u2018Geni+us\u2019 won the Championship and \u2018NexTTrendyLeveL\u2019 got\u00a0the 2nd Runner-up. The prize and certificate presentation ceremony was held internally on 3 July 2021. Mr Eric Poon, Director of Corporate Training and Talent Development of Creative Talent Asia Ltd, presented trophies, medals\u00a0and certificates to the winning teams and the participating teams of HSUHK respectively.<\/p>

The competition is an annual inter-varsity event with the objective of exposing students to the concept of enterprise resource management through interesting and exciting simulation games.<\/p>

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong (CILTHK) hosts the annual Student Day with missions to raise young people\u2019s concern about the current issues of logistics and transport in Hong Kong, and to encourage them to develop their future career in related industries. This year, the competition was held online in March amid the pandemic.<\/p>

A total of seven teams formed by students from various tertiary institutions including The University of Hong Kong (HKU), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) took part in this competition. Each team was allocated a transport and logistics-related topic on the event day. Participants were required to analyse and formulate solutions for the problems under a time constraint, and present their ideas to the judging panel through a video.<\/p>

A five-member HSUHK team consisting of Ms Cheuk-kiu Ho, Ms Man-qing Woo, Ms Cybi Fan, Mr Ming-ho Li and Ms Sarah Wong from BBA-SCM programme was coached and supervised by Dr Eugene Wong and Dr Helen Ma. With their excellent presentation with impressive analyses on the topic entitled \u201cWill the rail service be the best choice for the residents in Tung Chung\u201d, the HSUHK team was awarded the 2nd runner-up. The champion and the 1st runner-up went to the HKU team and the HKUST team respectively.<\/p>

BA-AHCC Students Rank the 1st in Hong Kong in IEEEXtreme 14.0 Programming Competition<\/h4>

Organised by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), IEEEXtreme Programming Competition is one of the largest events of its kind in the world. On 24 October 2020, 9,494 students representing 4,132 teams from universities across 73 countries took part in the IEEEXtreme Competition 14.0, in which all teams were required to solve a set of programming problems within 24 hours.<\/p>

Year-2 students from the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Applied and Human-Centred Computing Programme (BA-AHCC), namely Mr Man-to Ma, Mr Chun-hung Ng and Mr Chi-lam Wong, formed the programming team \u2018HSUHK\u2019 and finished the competition with flying colours. The team was ranked the 1st in Hong Kong region and the 151st worldwide in the competition.<\/p>

Ms Karen Tam, Year-2 student from the BBA (Hons) in Supply Chain Management programme, and Ms Sammi Lo, Year-3 student from the BBA (Hons) programme, participated in the Cyberport and AWS Educate Cloud Career Pathways Competition 2020 and were awarded as Top 10 Students. They completed assessments in various fields in Information Technology covering Cloud Computing, Machine Learning and Big Data, outperforming other participating students from various local higher education institutions in the number of AWS Educate Badges they earned. In the competition, Karen leant the importance of technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Programming; while Sammi, who majors in Accounting, found it equipped her with the latest professional knowledge of\u00a0technology for future development.<\/p>

This competition, co-organised by Cyberport and AWS Educate, aims at nurturing future talents in cloud technology for Hong Kong. Through providing complimentary online training courses of different topics and at different levels, it helps secondary school and university students grasp the essential knowledge of cloud computing.<\/p>

On 3 October 2020, students from the School of Business (SBUS) and the School of Decision Sciences (SDSC) of the HSUHK formed four teams and participated in the MonsoonSIM Enterprise Resource Management Competition 2020. After competing with 26 teams from other universities in Hong Kong, two of the teams received the 2nd runner-ups and one entered the top 10 finalists.<\/span><\/p>

After the first round of competition, the teams \u2018MedicPro\u2019 and \u2018LivLig\u2019, both comprising students from the SBUS, were shortlisted as two of the top 10 teams for the Grand Final competition, while the team \u2018Honest Pharmacy\u2019 formed by students from the SDSC entered the Adventure Group competition. Finally, \u2018LivLig\u2019 and \u2018Honest Pharmacy\u2019 won the 2nd runner-ups in the Grand Final and the Adventure Group competitions respectively. The team \u2018LivLig\u2019 and 4 other teams later also attended the MonsoonSIM International Grand Final Competition as Hong Kong representative teams in November and December 2020, which gave them valuable experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The competition is an annual inter-varsity event with the objective of exposing students to the concept of enterprise resource management through interesting and exciting simulation games. Students in teams of five players each will be asked to run virtual companies to compete for the highest business KPI target set for the day to win the competition.<\/span><\/p>

Mr Ho-long Cheng and Mr Yin-shan Choy from BA (Hons) in Applied and Human-Centred Computing programme participated in the 3rd Social Entrepreneurship Practice Camp between 24 and 26 May 2020, winning the 2nd runner-up and \u2018Youth Entrepreneurship Award\u2019 with a cash prize of HK$10,000.<\/p>

Organised by The Social Entrepreneurship School Education (SEnSE) Program, the competition themed \u2018Small Idea, Big Change\u2019 required participating teams to design social innovations suitable for disadvantaged groups in society. To encourage them to draw a long-term blueprint instead of just a short-term plan, each team needed to present to the judges the development direction of the proposed social enterprise in the next 3 to 6 years, in addition to introducing the framework of the plan.<\/p>

The activity aims to cultivate the caring culture and the design thinking for social entrepreneurship among secondary and post-secondary students.<\/p>

The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Logistics and Transportation Division (HKIE LTD) organised The HKIE LTD Best Students Papers Awards 2019 for outstanding students studying logistics, engineering or supply chain management degree programmes in Hong Kong to promote innovative ideas and research in the design and implementation of sustainable logistics and transportation systems in the territory.\u00a0 Over the years, this award was presented to the excellent students in the local universities and this was the first time that HSUHK\u2019s BBA-SCM student participated in this event.<\/p>

The 10th International Logistics Case Competition 2019 was held from 29 June to 6 July in Seoul, Korea, with the aim to enhance students\u2019 leadership skills, problem-solving skills and creative thinking. It was joined by university students around the globe, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Netherland. The team-based intensive competition created a simulated business reality where students had to resolve a workplace problem. Participants also went to visit local logistics companies, including DB Schenker, Korean Air Cargo Terminal, Lotte Mart and LF Logistics.<\/p>

A total of ten teams participated in the competition, in which HSUHK\u2019s students Cheuk-kiu Ho and Lok-sze Yeung (BBA-SCM, Year 3), who teamed up with two students from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and one student from Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), won the Championship.<\/p>

Participants were required to analyse and formulate solutions to problems relating to transport and logistics under time constraints.<\/p>

A five-member team, consisting of Chan Siu Long, Poon Wai Sze, Luk Hoi Yan, Chan Chin Ki and Kwok Tin Yi, was coached and supervised by Dr Eugene Wong. Students also received trainings from professors of the Department of Supply Chain and Information Management (SCM). They represented HSUHK\u2019s BBA-SCM programme and gave an excellent presentation with impressive analyses on the topic entitled \u201cIs it a natural tendency for e-commerce (online retailer) to provide in-house logistics service\u201d. The Hong Kong Logistics Case Competition 2019 was held between 22 and 24 Feb 2019 aiming at promoting practical problem-solving skill and creative thinking capability of post-secondary students. It is a team-based case competition in a simulated business reality where students need to resolve workplace problem and enhance their career development. A five-member team formed by Pak-hei Fan, Ka-yan Sin, Siu-hung Ting, Kin-fung Wong and Yung-chi Yiu (BMSIM students) won the 2nd runner-up in the DataDevelop 2019 Student Case Competition held on 26 January 2019. The competition was organised by DataDevelop Consulting Ltd, where participants were from local tertiary institutions. The competition this year included two keynote speeches and a group brainstorming, allowing the participants to learn and build network with experts in the industry and academia.<\/p>

Two BBA-SCM students: Chan Chin Ki and Cheung Yukyi Joey teamed up with three students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and took the Championship in a student competition.<\/div>

The Global Engagement Program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Dali Ecologic and Economic Development Creative Challenge Camp 2018 was held from 23 December 2018 to 6 January 2019 at Shanghai and Dali, China.<\/div>

Faced with the challenge of development and promotion of local agricultural products in Dali, students formulated a marketing plan for using Dali\u2019s bees. After visiting the company, the team members identified the problems and opportunities of the local enterprises and gave a practical brand building plan for a potential solution.<\/div>

A team formed by four BBA-SCM Year 4 students was first runner-up in the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong \u2013 Pitch Competition 2018. Team members included Tse Kam Ha, Joanna; Lee Ho Hing, Neil; Kwok Lai Ha, Sonia and Tam Wing Yan, Cynthia. They were led by Dr Eugene Wong, Assistant Professor of the Department Supply Chain and Information Management.<\/div>

With rapid development of technology such as 5G network, the team believed that \u201csmart transportation\u201d could become a new focus in Hong Kong by applying the ideas of Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data. Their idea of transforming local transportation to an automated, system-guided and real-time responding transportation in Hong Kong was recognised.<\/div>

The Department of Supply Chain and Information Management is delighted to share with you that our students have achieved outstanding results in two competitions, which were open to Hong Kong tertiary education institutions. This was the first time they participated in these two competitions.<\/p>

1. CILTHK Case Competition 2016<\/span><\/p>

The theme this year was \u201cInnovative Ideas for Logistics and Transport Industry in Hong Kong\u201d. Among all submissions, SCM students Chan Kuan U Luis, Wong Tsz Kin Jimmy and Kok Man Kit Steve took the champion.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The first and second runner-ups were students from PolyU and HKUST.<\/span><\/p>

The award is awarded to full-time undergraduate students (bachelor or sub-degree) studying in tertiary education institutions in Hong Kong. The focus of their studies must be transport \/ logistics or related discipline. Submissions can be on individual basis or a group of maximum 4 members.<\/span><\/p>

There are two rounds of assessments based on the below criteria.<\/span><\/p>

(1) Innovative: Idea of the project, its uniqueness and innovativeness 30%
<\/span>(2) Idea Description: Project background, objectives, whether the project gives a comprehensive description 20%
<\/span>(3) Research: Project implementation in other countries, its application status and future trend 20%
<\/span>(4) Feasibly and Implementation: Whether the project is applicable in Hong Kong transport\/logistics sector 20%
<\/span>(5) Structure and Organisaton: Structure and organisation of the presentation 10%<\/span><\/p>

2. CILTHK FYP Award 2016<\/span><\/p>

This award is open for undergraduates to highlight excellence in their Final Year Projects relating and contributing to the development for Best Practice and\/or Innovation in the field of logistics or transportation.<\/span><\/p>

Two Grade \u201cA\u201d team reports from related bachelor programmes were invited to be nominated for the Award. This year, a total of 10 nominations came from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Hang Seng Management College. Eventually there was only one award, and the winning team was from HSMC.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The team and project details are as follows:<\/span><\/p>

Mr WONG Ka Chun from the BMSIM Programme received the Championship of\u00a0BSA Startup Challenge Competition<\/strong>.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Organised by BSA\/The Software Alliance, with Intellectual Property Department of HKSAR Government, Customs and Excise Department of the HKSAR Government and Cyberport as co-organisers, the competition aimed at promoting software innovation, entrepreneurship and intellectual property rights among university students. Participants were required to produce a prototype and a marketing plan for their business ideas within 168 hours and to give a presentation to the panel consisting of start-uppers and representatives from major technology companies and government officials.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
The team created a webpage entitled \u201cTravelUs\u201d which serves as an agency to let travellers select their preferred tour guide in advance and tailor-make their itinerary in order to explore the local culture of Hong Kong. This competition not only helped to expand participants\u2019 networks, but also provided important insights into starting a new business from scratch.<\/div>
