Module Description
This is an introductory module which provides an overview of visual arts development from the period of Renaissance to the contemporary world. It explores various art forms such as painting, sculpture, crafts, architecture, and camera arts. Students learn the elements of arts and the basic vocabularies (e.g. line, shape, light, color, texture, space, etc.) for describing, identifying, and analyzing the characteristics of various art forms. In addition, students examine the contextual and cultural factors that influenced artists' choices of art making and arts around the world (such as arts of Asia and the Americas, Africa, etc.).
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. spell out the basic vocabularies for a better understanding and appreciation of different art forms and aesthetics

  2. technically describe the arts and images that have become part of our history

  3. analyse and decipher the different messages behind the art forms

  4. make reference of arts in daily lives
