Module Description
This module is designed for students who have acquired basic knowledge of corpus linguistics to apply such knowledge to the field of business communication. Some current written and spoken Business English corpora will be introduced, and practical skills and techniques of designing, compiling and analysing these corpora will be explored. Through independent in-depth corpus analysis of various features of business discourse, the module aims to sharpen students’ awareness of how business language is used lexically, semantically and grammatically in authentic business communication contexts as well as familiarise them with the tool of corpus linguistics.

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  2. Gain awareness of major existing corpus resources for Business English studies.

  3. Develop skills in using corpora for Business English analysis.
