Module Description
Online journalism is the new frontier in journalism. Traditional news media are using the Internet to disseminate information and attract readers, viewers and listeners. It is crucial for journalists to understand the new world of communications and grasp the expanding spectrum of possibilities for conveying news and information over the Internet.

This module introduces students to the new and varied ways to report stories online and helps students develop a critical understanding of online communication and new media and its effects on the process and dynamics of human communication and society.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. identify the history and development of online journalism and new media;

  2. familiarize themselves with the key issues in CMC and online journalism;

  3. explain the impacts of social media and media convergence on the society ; and

  4. criticize the structure and dynamics of contemporary online journalism and mass communication in Hong Kong.
