Module Description
The aim of this module is for students to build up basic communication skills necessary for daily life and social purposes of business with cultural-linguistic understanding. Students learn and understand more grammar and vocabularies such as different negation patterns and modifying forms, which help them to develop their Korean language proficiency. After completing this module, students are able to communicate in Korean -- reading, writing and speaking -- in situations of everyday life and business.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. understand and use honorific patterns (forms & expressions) (e.g. -(으)시) with polite pattern, -아 / 어요 through listening, reading, speaking and writing;

  2. be aware of irregular verb / adjective forms (e.g. ‘ㅂ’ & ‘ㅡ’ irregular forms) and various modifying forms (adjectives) to describe nouns (e.g. 예쁜 사람, 귀여운 아기) in four language learning areas;

  3. use suitable negation particles (e.g. 안/못 + predicate) for different intentions and learn an expression of impossibility / inability, ‘V (으)ㄹ 수 없다’; and

  4. understand all contents mentioned above in listening and reading and use them in speaking and writing through various class activities, enhancing and strengthening students’ communicative skills for daily life and social relationship.
