Module Description
This module introduces the concept of business intelligence, data mining and knowledge discovery, and data mining techniques for solving practical problems. Topics include knowledge discovery in databases (KDD), association rules mining, and methods in prediction and classification. Students will have the opportunities to apply important data mining techniques together with information technology to analyse real-life problems. Students are also required to present their findings in a professional manner.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. describe the fundamental principles and tools and identify a working knowledge of business intelligence, data mining and knowledge discovery

  2. apply data mining skills and techniques to solve practical business problems

  3. interpret and present the results in a scientific and concise manner

  4. work effectively in a team to formulate and analyse business and managerial requirements and then design and implement business intelligence system to fulfil their needs.
