Seventh Academic Salon Hosted by the School of Communication

The School of Communication held the 7th Academic Salon. Professor Huang-Fu Ho Wang, Head of Department of Journalism and Communication, Chu Hai College of Higher Education, was invited to the salon themed “The Phenomenon of a Man Bites a Dog is No Longer News.”.

Professor Huang-Fu has rich experiencesin both academic and industrial fields. He used to be the reporter of the Central Daily News and the chiefeditor of the Magazine “Integrated Monthly” (綜合月刊). After that, he worked as a lecturer at the School of Journalism andCommunication of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was also Head of the Department of Mass Communication of Fu JenCatholic University and the Registrar of the Shih Hsin University.

Professor Huang-Fu shared his research findingregarding dog-related news from Hong Kong and Taiwan in the past decades. Hediscovered that the public was interested in the news covering the relationshipbetween dogs and human being more than the breaking news like “man bites dog”.He henceforth argued that the famous quote from John Bogart is no longer valid.

The salon has facilitated exchanges of research aspects and methodsbetween Professor Huang-Fu and the professors of the School of Communication.
